GK MB 200: Part Two

I run my MB200 with an Eden 410XLT.
Is your cab 4ohm or 8ohm?
Gives me hope then, lol. I am wanting a back up or possibly a replacement for my Eden WT300 Head on the cheap.
I've found the difference between running a head at 4 ohms vs 8 ohms is very mild, but the difference between running a head into 2 drivers vs 4 drivers, even without changing impedance, is huge.

I've always said this... you wanna' get louder, the best way is to add drivers. That's the most efficient way to move more air... NOT making the same drivers work harder.

A good strong 200W head, like the MB200, should be very gig-worthy especially into a 410, and even moreso if you wanna talk 4 12's or 6 10's or even 8 10's.

I've told this story before, but it's still funny...

I played a gig one time where I was told "the backline is great, you'll love it". I brought my MB200 just in case. It was an SVT rig. Ampeg heads are just not my thing, so I plugged the MB200 into the 810 cab. It was awesome. The funniest part was, at the end, the sound guy asked me what kind of effects box I was using because he never heard that SVT rig sound so good (It was mic'd). :)

IMHO/IME.

Hey Vic, I know all about adding more speakers or speaker surface. Just my line of questions is geared to all I have is this 1 210 cab and no option for another atm. So was trying to get opinions on how it would sound with that option alone. I will change my cab option when the wallet says it is ok.

I've read back but did not find this issue. I've just got my brand new MB200 (USA sticker), tried out in the shop before I bought it. I was really worried by that 'hiss' mentioned here before.

It was plugged in a Peavey 1x15, and it was fine, no hiss at all (that cab does not have any tweeter, or horn...). I checked the headpone out, dead silent. Nice, took it home.

As I have a higher impedance headphone, without a hp amp, the volume is low, so I switched from headphone to line out on the back of the amp, to get more signal. It hisses without turning the gain up, and it increases adding more volume.

Is it normal? What does the line-out/headphone switch does anyway? In the headphone position it is noise free, even if the gain is at max.

I don't have any cabs nearby to try it out, if the speaker out hisses. But as I mentioned, I did not noticed any strange noises with that peavey... Should I return it?

The headphone position is designed to drive headphones, the line level position is not.

Yeah I agree with all that. The MB200 into my 4 ohm Berg AE410 is gig worthy. It's also feasible with my Epifani 4 ohm 210. However, my Berg HT112ER @ 8 ohms? naw, doesn't quite cut it.

Right... and I'd say your impressions would remain the same even if the 410 was 8 ohms and the 112 was 4 ohms.

well I'd certainly still expect more from the 8 ohm 410 box than the 4 ohm 112 box however.
That's actually what I'm saying. I was saying if your 410 was 8 ohms (it's 4), you'd still consider it gig-worthy, and, if your 112 were 4 ohms (it's 8), you'd still consider it insufficient.

Oh I see. Yep. I brought a single 10 (4 ohm) to a jam the other night with the MB200. FAIL. Oh well, gotta try even silly things every once in awhile.

I use my MB200 with a single 8 ohm Genz Benz Focus 115 for gigs - no problem. I do have PA support, but it's just 12" tops with a single 15" sub. I think the MB would be fine on it's own too.
I have a pair of the Focus cabs - I have hooked the MB up to both (so 2x15 at 4 ohms) and it's amazingly loud.

One band I played with briefly had a SVT 8x10 fridge in the practice space which I powered with the MB200 - I should have taken a pic of that :D

I love this little thing - probably some of the best money I've spent.

I tried the MB200 at the store the other day, had to bring it home to try out. Currently I am running a PF-500 through my TC Electronic BC212, not with that much gain though, but quite a bit. I am really enjoying the tone coming out of that tiny mb head. Going to give it some time and try it out with the band but I'm thinking I might change it up.
