GK MB 212 II Rant. Not Happy

Ok, I see what is going on now. I was not made aware of the proof of purchase info until now so the email that stated a purchase date of October 2013 combined with the serial number reflecting a 7th week of 2013 production date threw me off.

Needless to say, I will be on this first thing tomorrow when I get back in the office and will contact StudioGC directly with a solution to get him up and running right away.

GK

Thanks again Jason and the kind of service G-K is known for. It is clearly a communication breakdown.

By the way people, send in those warranty cards or register on the manufacturer's web site for anything you buy. I can't help but think it might have made a big difference here and could with anything else you buy from anyone.

GK

This is the GK organization and customer support I remember! It just took a little detective work to get all the facts straight.

Well, if a store has a GK amp from 2013, but it sits there and doesn't sell until 2015, it's still considered "new" when it is sold...correct? So even if the serial number on the amp is a 2013 serial number, if the retailer sold it in 2015, then the warranty should start from the date of sale.

However, I think StudioGC's poor experience was because he didn't go to GK first when there was an issue. I don't think what he did was wrong or dumb, but that it just worked out poorly for him. I think if this was a different store or a different repair center then the results would be different (probably better). I think it also put GK in a tough spot of, "well, someone else is handling this problem that we know nothing about because it wasn't brought to us, so at this point we'll continue to let them handle it. They requested parts, so we supplied the parts." Again, this is just my speculation - but the bottom line is, the repair center dragged their feet through all of this, didn't fix it the first time, and who knows what's going on this 2nd time. I think that place has to shoulder the vast majority of the blame.

In all fairness to myself, and GK. I'm sure GK would have said the proper course of action would be to take it to the local authorized repair facility once the problem occurred.

When all is said and done, I won't be spending my hard earned on a GK whatever the eventual outcome to this saga may be....

As previously stated, I have no problem with the sound that the combo makes but the prospect of possibly having to jump through hoops in the way that StudioGC has had to do to get a repair done is just not acceptable to me.....

That's a bit harsh. GK were mislead by OP's typo from the getgo although their authorised warranty repairs agent needs a kick up the backside.

I wonder if GK assumed there was a shop extended warranty in play, not in their domain but still giving the usual out of warranty support.

Harsh or not.....The very fact that a typo could cause me to go ampless for an extended period of time and have to resort to posting on TB and having to prove my honesty by posting pics of my receipts......No sorry.....To hell with that.....

Meh. Sometimes stuff happens. It is clear that all parties involved in this incident have good reasons for their actions (except maybe the repair place, who seemed to not care much). It was a very simple miscommunication.

So why would I buy a GK amp when it may well end up having to be sent to a repair place that doesn't seem to care much?....

Too risky :rollno:

Do you think there is a higher risk of this happening with a GK product than another company? I'm genuinely curious. Why would you focus so intently on one negative experience and seemingly ignore my positive experience?

My guess is that you could find one negative personal experience story for any product ever created, bass-related or not. So why hyper-focus on this one?

Because, as previously stated, I've been saving to buy a GK.....NOT a product from any other company but specifically a GK....

I'd have been spending MY money....NOT yours!.....

You say that you've had a good experience with GK.....Good for you....

MY money is still going to remain firmly in my pocket....You can spend YOURS on whatever you please....

I am personally happy to see the problem seems to be the service center and maybe the sales ethic of the store. I really hate to see a good company get sucked into being a bad corporation. I'm not saying all large corps are bad, but good companies can easily get sucked into bad without bad intent. This can happen from going public, getting bought up by a bigger fish, or even just growing to fast from being too good.

Jason, I also thank you for coming in and stating the facts from your perspective. I think a close review of this seller and service center is in order. You might not control them, but you certainly can and maybe should terminate the contract you have with them.

It would be interesting to know what went on inside the amp. Unrepaired, botched repair, shipping related or improper testing. Could be something as simple as they bench tested it on an isolation transformer and never plugged it into the mains directly or plugged a real bass into it. It's happened.

I'm not trying to be difficult or convince you to do anything. I'm just trying to understand your reasoning. I find it odd that people in general (myself included) will heavily weight a negative experience and completely ignore a positive (or hundreds of positive) experiences.

My question still remains. Do you think other companies are less likely to have this scenario happen than GK, and if so, what evidence do you have to support that position?

Whether I believe that other companies are less likely to have this scenario happen, or not, is completely irrelevant to this discussion....I also have no need, or desire, to present evidence to you whatever my position may be....

This thread concerns GK and their service center...Not any other company....

Trying to put this as simply as I possibly can....I don't like the way that StudioGC has been treated by GK or the service center....

He's been made to wait for an extended period of time before any resolution to his problem has been addressed and even now he STILL doesn't have a working amp.....

He's been made to look like he's at fault for the problems he's faced and I have absolutely no intention of taking the chance of finding myself in a similar position to him.....

That's it.....

Fair enough, my friend.
