GK MBF800 + HPF - What a surprise!

Most amps have some sort of HPF built in as does the GK.
Since most are fixed frequency, the question becomes do you like the corner frequency and the slope of the filter?
Also, having an adjustable frequency can be very helpful for some rooms.

Sending a DI with HPF to front of house is not something I would normally do assuming a knowledgeable sound man. His requirements are often very different for stage monitoring and these days most consoles have a HPF of some kind or another per channel as well as on the house main EQ.

It’s also useful to know that the HPF on the channel strip of your soundboard may not be as high order as the sort you can get in a pedal.

Gig Report: HPF with GK MBF800

Rectangular restaurant that holds about 100 people
Small corner stage with plywood walls and thin fabric covering
I've played this room many times before with the same bass, cabinet, compressor, and HPF; the difference being an SWR SM400

Definitely an improvement with the HPF!
Best sound in the room was with the low mid at 10:00 and the bass at 11:00.
Overall pretty warm sounding with good clear bottom and the ability to get a really nice high end snap on the two songs that need this by moving the treble from 9:00 to 10:30.

The thin sound past the 3rd fret / 4th string for some songs was disappointing though.
Bringing up the low mid brought on the mud and adding bottom did help the G string slightly but there was already enough.
Had I brought my trusty Boss parametric I think things would have been better.
Just wasn't up for switching amps at the break so no comparison.

I set up all my gear at home with the knobs unchanged to have a listen in a decent sounding room as well as compare to the SWR.
Gig EQ was leaner than what I would use at home but it was clear what the room needed.
I was able to match the low mid and bottom EQ with the SWR and still manage to keep some meat on the 4th string. This setting was bass at 12:00, treble and transparency at 9:00, and a 3-6 dB bump at 160 and 800 Hz.
This is all just an approximation of matching tone so anything is possible in the real world.

Will use the SWR this Thursday night and will switch back to the GK (unless things sound awesome in which case I'll just be great full!)

Glad it's working out for you Jim. And happy to hear you might get some mileage out of your 800. That is an amazingly potent little guy.

I've found I need to treat my lows and low mid different with the HPF especially depending on the room. I guess it depends on where flat is on each head. My go to setting for HPF is 80hz and I work up and sometimes down from there but 80 seems to be were I commonly end up. Then I bring up the bass (which I never ever did before and freaks me out a little) and low mids (especially if any strings sound weak).

Traynor combos (and separate heads I would think) have built-in HPF set at 44Hz.
