Hi guys,

I had some circuitry problem with my Backline 110 and I emailed GK a while back but has no response from them yet, anyone experienced that? Should I just drop by to their closest repair centers or wait for them?

I had trouble with a backline 210. the input went two minutes after I recieved it. I got on the phone to GK dealer and the same courier that had delivered it came back in 1 hour to collect it again. I was asked if I would be happy with a repair or if I wanted a totally new unit. 10/10 for GK in my book, maybe the email got misplaced ?

thanks guys!

i think the warranty was for 2 year and my amp is just a little over a year so it should be fine. My consideration is probably more to whether should i just drop by at one of their service centers which is not too far from my house or get GK's word on it :)

thanks!

I would just check the GK website to find a service center near you and take the amp along with a copy of your sales receipt to the nearest one. If you don't have your sales receipt we can look up your warranty card if you sent it in or the store might be able to print a new copy for you.

If you don't have a service center near you give us a call.

Sorry about your email not being responded to can you let me know what email you sent it to and I can look into it.

After Hurricane Katrina covered all my amp gear in Waveland,Mississippi with twenty plus feet of saltwater and muck from hell itself, I emailed the manufacturers with pleas for help. GK was one of the first to respond and one of the two that actually offered some assistance in getting me up and running.

They dilligently follwed up and in very short time were able to repair my amp as well as offer me a great deal on a replacement. I have nothing but good to say about their support, although this was an extraordinary catastrophe.

By the way, Dave Funk was the first to respond (5 minutes) even though I wasn't a Thunderfunk owner at the time. I am NOW!!

Check out my brief testimonial...http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=220871

I've been a musician for over 40 years and in my entire playing experience I've never experienced the kind of support organization as GK has, friggin' incredible, they really do care.

Not that I've needed much support for their gear, but when I did they were all over it.

I've Emailed GK four times with questions and have yet to receive a response. It's a good thing for them I really like their line of equipment. I thought it was just me, but apparently it's a pattern. What's up with that? So far I rate the gear a 10 and the company a minus ten...I'm still waiting.......................................

Every consumer facing company that I've dealt with has been awful at responding to email, without exception. If you want service, you have to pick up the phone.

I'll give the old land line a try on monday, or I guess I could ask the question on TB to get an answer. I'm not exactly sure how this bi-amp works on the SBX cabs and how it relates to the 1001RB-II. Is the bi-amp related to the horn or another cab and how should it be run when using the SBX by itself?

The bi-amp feature is explained pretty clearly in the manual. It basically allows you to power the tweeter and the woofers separately. When you turn up the boost knob, it affects only the woofers (when in bi-amp mode) producing a nice growl while leaving the high frequencies nice and clean. I suggest reading the manual for the 1001rb II and check out some of the sample settings they put in there. One important thing to know, is, that you must use a 4 conductor Speakon cable to use the biamp mode or you can mess your stuff up. (It's in the manual.)

I have contacted the GK support only once and they were GREAT. Their response was quick and helpful even with an "obsolete" product.

The problem was a GK 1200 SEB (yep, the digital head), with several components removed from the PCB.

To this day I haven't been able to find those quite rare power transistors, but at least now I know what to look for.

Yours might be an isolated incident, like an undelivered or blocked email or something.

In general, I've found that almost every company I've contacted, has replied within a couple of working days, with just a few exeptions. Should I consider myself lucky ?

Regards
Sam

I'm going to look into the email problem. I suspect that there is an email address on the GK website somewhere that isn't getting to it's rightful owner. In the meantime, I have updated my email address on my talkbass profile so you guys can send them to me if you aren't getting any responses. I'll be sure to get your questions to the right people

We describe the biamp feature on the 1001RB and SBX cabs as Horn Bi-Amping. (used to call it the Horn Management System but I felt Horn Bi-Amp explained itself better so I changed it:-)

There is a crossover in the head that sends signals 5K and above to the tweeter via pins 2+ and 2- of a 4 pin speakon cable. The signal going to the woofer bypasses the crossover and is consequently full range. That way if you are using a cab that does not support the Horn Bi-Amp System, you are still getting a full range signal.

There is also a button next to the woofer knob callled "Woofer High Cut" which rerouts the signal going to the woofer through the crossover so only signals below 5k get through. This is meant to eliminte a phenoma in woofers known as Beaming. That's when a high pitch noise comes straight out of the center of the cone.

The 4 pin speakon cable is included with GK cabs that support Horn Bi-Amping such as the SBX, Neo and RBH series.

okay I'm gonna shut up now. Starting to sound like a training film narrator.
