GK vs Aguilar

Hmmmm...TH stomp box? That's not a bad idea! I was also considering the dimensions & weight of my GK. it's so heavy in the rack with tuner & power conditioner. Sometimes I feel like the amp rack feels heavier then my Aggie cabs! Lol I play with brites so I'm assuming I might miss my GK if I choose to sell it.

Yeah. It's tempting hey. I've been pacing around the idea of applying the Tonehammer pedal to my frontend for about two years. Nearly pulled the trigger on it once or twice but my disposable income has always been too low. Best thing about the pedal is that it's a great stand-alone DI solution for any gig with reliable PA support. Just put it in your gig bag and leave the heavy amp at home.

Sounds like a best of both worlds scenario to me. The best part being that you can run the TH through the effects return while still having the GK boost and power amp control. Also, you would maintain the Bi-Amping capabilities if you ever decided to utilize GK cabs.

I just bought a used like new TH effects pedal here last week. I ran it thru the effects return of my brand new GB Shuttle 9.2 head. WOW! It is now a thumping, darn near 900 watt TH head with my 4 ohm cabs. And now I can power my 8 ohm cabs with about 500 watts as well.

I also recently traded a TBer for is also like new MB500 head. Yeah, I know I been kinda GASsy lately. I like that little amp fine but not exactly my fave tone for my blues/r&b/soul bands.

I really wanted to try a TH500 amp but I had just bought the GB amp. Its a very nice amp in itself but now I can use it as is or add the TH pedal, bypassing the GB pre for a 900 watt TH tone. Very happy with these two options. But my Streamliner 900 still gets the gigs.

The TH pedal def worth a consideration if you wanna keep your GK head. I need to try the TH pedal with my MB500 to see what that does.

You do know the TH500, Streamline 900 and Shuttle 9.2 use the same power amp module, right?

I was shooting for a different tone of the STM-900 when I bought the 9.2 recently but I found it to be too similar to the STM-900. I posted the 9.2 for trade but didn't get any offers I wanted. So I'm keeping the 9.2 and got the TH pedal to use it with. Sounds much different to me now. And still different than my STM-900, I feel.

What's your point exactly, that the three amps have very similar power amp capabilities? But still different tones than each other. No?

LOVE the idea of just putting the head in my gig bag and leaving the heavy amp at home! The GK MB800 is now someting I am looking at.

That is an easy fix. First, a power conditioner is TOTALLY not needed. And second, there are small, true bypass pedal tuners that are more accurate than many of the rack mount units, and you get a foot operated tuner mute for free. Get a small, lightweight two space rack like an SKB or Gator, a Pitchblack or TCElectronics tuner (or a Sonic if you want the best and don't mind spending a bit of cash), and you should be good to go and much smaller, lighter.

Edit: And if you really want to keep the GK sound and go super lightweight, get a GK MB800 and a bag (along with one of the pedal tuners above). SMOKING little head. A bit 'wider and brighter' to my ear than the 1001, but close enough, and at least as much oomph to my ear. Get a PedalTrain Nano for the tuner and a Tonehamer pedal and have it all!

Well, I just thought you might want to know, as you mentionend plugging a TH into the fx return jack, that's all.
Preamps on these are different, that's for sure:)
