I'm having trouble getting this to dial in correctly with my rig.
Can someone please help me with this.
I play:
Spector Euro4LX
GK2001RB
Ampeg 8x10

I played Fender MIA P-Bass (passive) and MMStingray 5's (active) through the rig before and never had any trouble dialing them in.

But my Spector's pre Amp I'm assuming Is the culprit..

I've tried re-dialing my Bass, Gain, Boost. . . My -14db pad Is in.

Nothing I do Is enabling me to get my clear, round and precise low end I've always achieved quickly.

If I don't solve The problem I'm going to trade my head out for an Ampeg. Thing Is i dialed my Bass through an SVT-3 and 8x10 when I tried the bass out and never had a problem.

A littttttttttle frustrated.
Someone has to have a simple correct solution for my problem.

Thanks guys,
JS

The Euro4LX has the TonePump.
I tried turning down the volume on the pre amp simultaneously turning down the Bass, Gain, AND Boost on my head. I don't know why this is so difficult to dial in.

It's frustrating.

The Bass is new, new battery, just set up too...

Hi There,
I found I needed to turn down the input and boost quite a bit with my Spector Euro 4LX even with the adjustable gain tonepump. That pre has plenty of gain all it's own. Try 9 o'clock on the input(volume) and around 10 o'clock on the boost. Also try cutting the bass on the amp to about 11 o'clock and maybe boosting the high mids just a hair past 12. Hope this helps,
Brent

Hmm,

See- What I'm trying to do is be able to keep everything on 10 on my Euro4LX.. then adjust everything on my head.

You know what it's like to play live.. I don't want to have to worry about possibly bumping the knobs on my bass.

Honestly- I may just sell my head and go with a different head. I mean I know my GK2001RB is super boobies.. But I don't really need ALL the power. Like I said, when I played the Euro through an SVT-3 it was dialed in perfect right off the bat and good to go.

Then I was assuming- OH well I'm going to play this through my GK now and it's going to sound SOOOOOOO GOOD.

ANNNDDDD.... of course I'm having trouble dialing it all in. It would happen to me.

****.

Yup that's the problem my man you have everything maxxed.
One of my favorite settings on the Spector was to have both pickups on full and the bass and treble pointed straight down that's probably 65-70%. Keep messing with it. That 2001RB is a great amp. Now with my G&L L2000 and Fender Jazz all the eq was set at 12 o'clock and they sounded great, go figure!

get that tonepump dialed back to about 30% you will still have a good growl.... also you could hook it up to 18v, that will clean it up a little and could help.... I run a similar bass (older Euro) but through the GK MBE 410 (2) and a gk 700rbii. My cabs are sealed live the svt 810. I know exactly what you are talking about....

also are you running straight into the head or using a DI. I am using a MXR M80 and that helps me also....

PM me and I can help you with the 18v mod if you want

That's your problem right there... The Spector is an active bass, not like a passive fender (for example) where you max all the tone knobs.

On an active bass like the Spector you should be running all the knobs at their center notch and then just adjust them slightly if you need to change your tone (but you should rather just do it on the amp IMO). The spector preamp is very "HOT" as it is, if you max the controls it's no wonder that your amp is crying...

Exactly. You can't boost the bass knob on the Spector to full blast and expect your GK head or ANY HEAD to work with that. From reading on this forum, the bass knob at around 30% and the treble at 10% I think? That is the flat setting.

I got rid of the Tone Pump on all of my Euros. Replaced all of them with the 18 volt Spector Haz-Lab setup. Much cleaner tone and so much EASIER to adjust live. Center detents on all knobs this way. The Tone Pump used to distort at ANY setting with my finger playing - drove me nuts. The output was crazy too.

Do not sell the head until you mess with the controls.

+1

The tone pump in that bass is hot but is adjustable. dial the trimpot on the tonepump to 30-50% the idea is to be able to run everything full boost but not distort the pre on the head. Keep everything on the head about 12:00 or so and bump the mids a bit to keep up with the B/T boost. Run the vol full up on the bass. Pup blend in the middle or rolled forward a bit (my pref). Adjust your bass boost to taste (sweet spot about 60%) adjust your treb boost to taste ( sweetspot about 40%). Take off the knobs and reposition them to a refrence point once you have it where you like it (I point them at the split in the p pup) . Maxing out the bass n treb only really works on the HAZ pre and with a tube pre head, but the output isn't adjustable like in the pump and is wicked hot (suspect it was originally designed to distort a tube pre back in the day). Imo the pump is the better pre. 18 v will give the emg's more fidelity and keep them from breaking up when your hitting the strings hard. Highly Grendle recomended! Lol

Your GK might not like such a hot bass. I never cared for them personally with active basses. They do work well with passives imo. The input I found clips in a bad way and couldn't get them to work for me. I run a svt 2 pre and it likes the hot signal. It gets grindy when you push it, but will distort if turned up too much. Give that a shot.

Not all of them have it. I've got an older model TP that odes not.

+1 the older ones (pre 04 maybe?) Don't have it. The tone pump Jr doesn't and the non trim pot tonepump pre's don't like 18v either. Honestly a lot of guys (myself included ) like the tonepump with the trim pot better than the HAZ. The trim pot on the pre let's you dial in the output level. They usually ship at about 90%. There's a real nice sweetspot in there about 40-60%. It was made to model the HAZ, and is hotter than you will ever need, so you can distort just about any amp made with it if you want. The output at 90% is about what the HAZ puts out full bore, but the haz doesn't have the low end the pump does, and the highs are centered a little different. The pump really comes into its own when you roll the trim pot back and run it at 18v . You get all the growl and the B/T boost is useable at 100% settings.

I think it's pre 06 or 08, my 06 Euro 5LX has the non trim TP.

+1 I wasnt sure on the years.

A new tone pump with the trim pot is the best $100 you can spend . On sale now new for $99 new. You can find them used as well. Lots of people dump them quick because it not the HAZ ( I did, then bought another to go back to lol) , but that pre is one of the best out there if you take the time to learn how to use it (imo)

love to hear one of those in a schecter stilletto eliete.
