GK200MB speaker needed

posted in amps, since this is an amp compat. type of question with the combo.

I have an old mid 80's GK 200 MB combo with a single 12" speaker in it. The speaker went out and Pyle, the original speaker manufacturer no longer exists. I've been recommended an eminence speaker at the shop. They'll be doing the install and setup. The speaker will be about $110.

Is this an average deal? Or are cheaper speakers / better speakers around that ball park? I'm unsure if I'll keep it after it is repaired. I'll probably be selling it here.

Thoughts?

Have you asked GK if they can recommend a speaker?

If it's just the foam surround that's toasted, you should be able to get it repaired by a pro. When I bought an '89 200MB about 3 years ago it came with disintegrating foam. $30 fixed it and it's worked well for hundreds of gigs/rehearsals.

Otherwise contact GK for a replacement. The small sealed design needs that particular speaker to do its best.

It has to be the GK replacement driver, which is presently made by Eminence AFAIK. Any old driver won't do. GK has a custom driver that is capable of functioning in that very small box. People have reported that the GK price is not exorbitant. A 200MB is worth bringing up to date, as they still have a loyal following.

As for the surround, like Winston says, that's repairable. In fact, Parts Express sells a foam surround repair kit.
