I think this fingerboard is composite, and it is very tough. I have played it regularly since late June and it has virtually no wear.
So my guess is your right most likely the fretboard is a resin wood pulp concoction.
Yes, yes it is. I have mighty-mite Ebonol neck I enjoy playin paired up with an TB standard PJ special.Ebonol is layered paper and resin. We’re going to see a lot more of this sort of thing with non-resonant instrument parts. Fine by me.
View attachment 3978015 Piece of a fretted Glarry board filed and sanded for a peek, my fretless is the same. Mine has visible marks, but I notice no issues. View attachment 3978016
Dude you happen to have a cross section of a glarry fingerboard, haha that cracks me up!
It is!I heard it was composite, but I do not know for sure.
Yea maybe rosewood "pulp" first thing I noticed when it showed up was how odd the fingerboard material was.According to the Glarry site, that fingerboard is rosewood. Is this the same as yours? Glarry GP Fretless Electric Bass Guitar 4 String Burlywood Sunset - Glarrymusic
it is a composite
it looks like super thin pieces "sandwiched" together and dyed
Wait a MINUTE!!!! You have to tell me how you "trimmed to a jazz-like profile in nut width and thickness". I need to do that to mine!!!That neck was trimmed to a jazz-like profile in nut width and thickness. Then I coated it in CA. Then, decided I'd rip the board off and attach a nice figured board to it. I never did finish that project.
Haha I bought 2 at $56 and immediatly pulled the frets from the one that had more sustain. The fretless they offer now wasn't available. It was simple though, a little water, razor blade and soldering iron for heat which in hindsight I dont think I needed (i don't think the frets were even glued) finished out nicely though.View attachment 3977782
