I've seen pics and videos of bassists wearing gloves. Can somebody shed some light on the subject? I find it strange that these guys are able to play with a glove on. Please educate me.

The reasons I know of that people wear gloves are sweaty hands or a condition called Focal Dystonia. I believe that gloved bassists wear tight gloves made of a thin strong material (like silk) so that probably still allows some tactility.
