GoFundMe to Pay for Gear?

The difference we have have with those who are younger is pretty basic: we were raised to work for it, while they were raised to ask for it.

@40Hz had it right. Us older guys are to blame.

When our generation had kids, we wanted to give them everything that they asked for. It's human nature to want to see your kids happy. We gave them everything they asked for.

What we didn't give them, was pride and work ethic. Anybody with either wouldn't crowd fund.

If I have a great idea, I'll go to the bank, with a significant portion of the capital raised, and a business plan. I'll put my financial future on the line and take a risk. If the business plan is sound enough, and I have my ducks in a row, the bank will back me.

If they don't, they'll tell me what more I need to do to get approved, and I'll work towards that.

The idea of crowd funding wouldn't even cross my mind.
I'm 53 and find these generalizations to be largely spurious. There are all kinds of factors that have led to crowdfunding, IMO, many of which we can't talk about here.

dude wants goods > dude offers to sell goods to pay for desired goods > angry mob mobilizes

dude wants goods > dude offers to sell goods to pay for desired goods > angry condescending mob mobilizes

(I added an adjective. There seems to be a lot of "holier than thou"/"I would never stoop to that level" rhetoric involved, too.)

dude wants goods... dude offers something of negligible/ questionable worth to pay for desired goods... wise mob says- "what a loser". Pay for your own equipment, pay for your own recordings, if the market is there someone will pay you, if not, you are only out of YOUR own money not mine.

There is plenty of good music now, and plenty of crap music then.
I am sorry I expressed my "opinion". Yes that was my opinion but mine regarding the newer generations not paying for music is the reason why the GoFundMe projects actually exist. It's a built in way to get people to actually pre-pay for the recording since artists can't recoup the costs these days or make a living from their craft. With that I'll let it be.

Kirk out.

Say the older Americans that have racked up more public debt than anyone, ever... The sanctimony is grotesque. Ya'll claim to be hard workers who never took anything you didn't earn, but you're leaving your younger countrymen how many trillions in the hole?

You really are coming across as arrogant and condescending. Plus, you are making sweeping generalizations about a generation consisting of millions of people. Thanks for letting us know you have a Ph.D. in political science, though. Now I'll know to avoid you. I come to TB to get away from that sort of thing. I only have a lowly master's in political science. So I know there is no point in even seriously trying to engage in a conversation with someone like you. I've had enough of this sort of thing already quite enough in real life. Unfortunately, real life doesn't allow me to put someone on Ignore. However, I do have that luxury here. Adios, Doctor.

The best part is that if you don't think the goods are worth paying for you don't have to purchase them....or you can post on a website about how smart you are and stuff.

Can we add a GFM section to the classifieds?
I said it in a earlier post, but I'll say it again, custom builders are very easy to work with on paying for custom instruments. It takes time to build them. Also, finance companies have been popping up lately to finance these kind of things. We have other options other than to just put a hand out.

This thread keeps delivering.

Cranky old people: Grumble grumble grumble. Kids today are lazy and entitled. Grumble grumble grumble.

Me: Older generations have some problems with that as well.

Cranky old people: How dare you make generalizations about us!

Never in my life have I ever said anything like you are saying. I've never called anyone lazy and entitled. In fact, I get along with younger people very well most of the time. It's people like you who wear your Ph.D. as a badge of superiority that I have a problem with.
