GoFundMe to Pay for Gear?

Never in my life have I ever said anything like you are saying. I've never called anyone lazy and entitled. In fact, I get along with younger people very well most of the time. It's people like you who wear your Ph.D. as a badge of superiority that I have a problem with.

You may not have said anything like that, but the people I was responding to sure did. Also, I think this is the only time I've mentioned my doctorate on here, and it was in response to a "and how would you know anything about it?" sort of question. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the degree, but one time in two years (IIRC), when relevant, is hardly wearing it as a badge of anything.

Well, I actually do respect the doctorate. I am aware of what it takes to get one. However, I do think you were using it somewhat as "proof" that you were more of an expert than anyone else. Be that as it may, all I can say is that on a personal level not much of anything you have said seems to apply to me. I think it's mostly a coincidence, but I tend to be around younger people quite a lot. I'm not saying any negative things about them. I could give many examples, but probably the best one would be my guitarist who is 33 and also my best friend. We don't seem to have any major issues over generational differences. In fact, our taste in music is almost the same, too.

The Presidential debates were held at UNLV tonight. Afterwards, the CNN heads were talking outside, and in the background the crowd is holding up different signs. There were the ubiquitous Trump and Hillary signs, there were also giant Jesus signs...but there was also one sign that said:

Guess what! Last I checked they were at $1300 of their $100 goal!

a similar situation arose a few years back when a band I was in wanted to hold a fundraiser show to make money for an album.
I was turned off right away and it was one of the reasons I left that band. I felt it was the wrong way to approach anything as trivial as making an album.
for a worthy cause-perhaps.

I think if you go back and read your sarcastic and combative response to one of my earlier posts where I simply asked you to name your sources you might see things in a slightly different light. Just to refresh your memory, that was the one you began with: "Nope. Nope. And Nope. It's cute that you believe this, though."

That's a very far cry from the (and again I'll quote you): "'and how would you know anything about it?' sort of question." you chose to characterize it as.

And again to refresh your memory, the very first thing you did in your response was to trot out your degree. Which I think was, to apply your own criteria to something I posted later, either an attempt at a putdown, or you inserting some 'humblebrag' of your own. (And thank you for introducing me to that term btw. I had to look that one up.)

If my response in return was equally sarcastic and ill considered, I'll apologize - up to a point - for my lapse in civility. However, I also think your equally rude and dismissive return putdown balances the exchange out enough that you'll forgive me if I don't feel too badly about it. Like begets like. And after rereading your previous posts, and the tone that permeats them, I think it's a little disingenuous on your part to try to reclaim some sort of moral high ground after some of what you've said here

But that's water under the bridge.

Perhaps if we could all just go back to discussing the merits of crowdsourcing as it relates to the OP's original question, and not drag generational differences of interpretion and personalities into the equation, this whole discussion might make for more pleasant reading.
