Going BEAD - nut adjustment question

Looking to go down as far as A# standard on a cheap P-style bass with gauges .135 .100 .75 .55 as an experiment of a sorts.

I know the nut slots will have to be made wider to fit the strings, but what about the distance between the fretboard and the strings? Does the nut need to be filed down towards the neck as well?

While we're at it, what's the best place to get the files that I will need to make this transition? And is there anything else I need to know before doing this?

Thanks,

Since this is "an experiment of a sorts" it may be better to buy another nut to setup for the different strings req'd for the tuning. That way, if you change your mind and want to go back to std tuning/gauges, just replace the original nut. You won't have to setup 2 nuts that way.
