Sweet '70. Dang, I went looking for photos of all my Rancheros over the years and this is the only one I could find. A '76 with a 460 C.I. motor. Smogged into dogdom, but I removed all that garbage and had a Carter 4bbl. Still an underpowered motor but it was fun. I had'70, 2 '71's, a '74 Rancheros and a '71 Torino 500.

Agreed. Compression ratios dropped quicker than the stock market by 1973. By 1975 the flagship Corvette had a blistering 165 horsepower.

I wasn't there, but I agree from a power perspective. For me, the fascination with the '70s is more from a design perspective. I definitely think it peaked in '70-'73, and I know there were some stinkers after that (they don't call it the malaise era for nothing). But I really dig some mid-late-'70s style in the cars. Chevelle Laguna, later 2nd-gen Camaro Z28, 77-81 Trans-Am, 75-78 Charger and Magnum (even if they go against what the Charger used to be, they are stylish cars). Thunderbirds, Cougars, even the later Torinos like @Hot Rats Ranchero are good looking cars. If I ever got my hands on one, there would definitely be some work done under the hood to wake them up a bit.

Later second gen Camaro?? Got two of them.....

81 Camaro that I've owned since 1985. Started life as a base model Sport Coupe with a wheezing 267 under the hood, now it's a 10 second street legal car. All steel (except the hood) real glass windows and a full interior. Lights, wipers, etc.... all there and functional. 477 cube BBC, TH400 and a 4:10 geared 12 bolt. All throttle and no bottle.

79 Z/28. Bought in 97 as an $800 roller...... stuffed in a mild 355 with a solid cam, TH350 with a loose converter and ran easy 12 second et's. Daily drove the car for years, sold it in 2001 and bought it back in 2016 for less than I sold it for. Title was still in my name and the odometer had only registered 1 mile in 15 years.

Pic is from the 1998 IHRA Empire Nationals where I made it to a semi final finish in the ET class..... not bad for a street driven car that still has the spare tire & jack in the trunk.
