Double Bass Going on a week vacation will my bass be okay?

Haha I don't leave until Tuesday. I've come to realize that even when I'm here, without AC and just a tinny dehumidifier there isn't a whole lot I can do, and I think having all the windows locked up will keep the humidity more constant then when we are all at home. Looking at 10 day forecasts it looks like the temperature is going to be fairly mild the first half of the trip. Low 70's and low chance of rain is about perfect.

The bass will be fine. Close the curtains and have a ball!

I think I want a suspension case. Not a fully fledged flight case, but one of the styrofoam ones. I'm aware they're usually not very durable but, I would still use my bag for orchestra and everything, but I think it would relive my separation anxiety from my bass. I'd keep it in the crawl space and when I feel like leaving for the weekend, I'll pull it out, load my bass up, and lay it on it's back on the floor and bam! No way the cats can hurt it, it'll control humidity a bit better, and absolutely no worries about it tipping over in any direction. Plus I recently got a very large scholarship to play bass at a university, it's not a full ride but it's a huge majority of the cost! They said I could keep my bass in the practice rooms, or, they'd give me a two person dorm and let me and my bass live there. Going home for the weekend I'd feel a lot better having my bass shelled up, then I would keep my case...in the practice room, under my bed, I'm not sure about that yet. But, I'm off topic again and will ask in a new thread once I've fully researched different options for more robust cases. Someone has a Kolstein Flight Case for $850 on the classifieds but that's just too much case for my purpose. I'm not so worried that I need it hanging from ropes and surrounded by air pockets. That case is a pretty cool beast of a thing though.

I do have insurance from the shop I bought it from where they'll fix damage there, but I do not like them working on it, I don't trust them. I had them change strings on it and they wouldn't let me watch, and when he brought it back out I was playing it and when I pointed out the scratch he put on the back of the scroll he was quick to get out of there. I bought my bass from them because it was the very best one I found for the amount I had to spend. It was close between mine and a 1920's mittenwald, but mine played a lot better and they sounded about identical. Plus it's new so I figured it'd be more forgiving in my care compared to a 100 year old instrument.

My only plants are spider plants for my cats to munch on :) they're invincible and ones older than me.

I live just down the road (essentially) in Sheboygan and would offer to stash your bass in my basement (finished, no pets, little traffic, stays cool, pair of decent dehumidifiers keeping humidity pretty constant). But I'm guessing you'd be hesitant to letting a stranger off the internet bass-sit for you!
