Going to Quebec in Oct..what to see?

Generally speaking Quebec French swear words are based on religion, specifically the Catholic religion, which is the predominant religion in Quebec society, or at least it used to be. English swear words, on the other hand, are based on sex and body parts and functions. I think that whatever is taboo in a society eventually finds its way in the lexicon as a swear word.

Well I'll answer OP reqeust. We enjoyed:

Old Town
Hotel Frontenac

If you drive a little ways north of Quebec City there is a very European looking cathedral - St. Anne DeBupres - supposedly a site where many have been healed - their canes and wheelchairs and leg braces, etc are all hanging in there.

We also enjoyed a St. Lawrence River cruise.

Just for the record, the above pictures are from the Mont Tremblant ski resort, which isn't really anywhere near Quebec city (it's an hour-and-a-half north of Montreal).

We drove six hours from Syracuse, after a plane ride from St Louis.

You can drive about 30min for the National Jacques-Cartier Park if you're into kayaking and plenty of other outdoor activities (I was there yesterday, it's beautiful)
There's also the Plaines d'Abraham, worth a visit.
Le Clap is an international cinema

I'm just listing stuff on top of my head, Ugly can probably give you better or more ideas. I can also recommend you a few restaurants if needed.

edit: ugly_bassplayer, could you share your tips and whatnot? I'm curious, I'd like to read them and I'm sure others could also learn from them.

I'm not sure if this has changed since I was last in Quebec (2004), but remember, it's illegal to make a right turn on a red light!

It's legal in most cities now, except for Montreal. Still, most busy intersections with an important pedestrian flow have signs prohibing right turn on red light.

I'm guessing Montreal still has it so they can make money off Americans who don't know the law and are making right turns where they shouldn't!

Still?? Wow, I remember them being the worst drivers on the planet when I used to live there, and I left in 1984! They haven't improved!

You all have never driven in St Louis. We had no problems in Montreal. Traffic was heavy but people pretty much stayed in their lanes, drove at something resembling the speed limit and nobody cut us off. Maybe we are jaded.

No, you just got lucky! The worst part is that, not only have the drivers not improved, the roads have gotten worse! Okay, maybe the drivers aren't the worst on the planet, but the roads very possibly are.

Montreal is an Island and on each bridge , it is very well indicated that you can't turn right on red lights.


And at the exit of the Dorval airport too !

I remember the signage was not great. We were using an Iphone navigation app, and on highways with alternate numerical designations, the sign for the exit was never the same as the one we were told to look for.

Yikes. I ran into that sort of thing before in some spots in Europe. We're staying slightly north of the city, not too far away so we should be good to go.
