Best strings in modded mbass. Would be interested in flats but don't want to pay. Have tried several and come back to pahahoes but for the correct string length not ubass 21 scale stretched. I have other short basses with ghs pressurewound or labella goltone flats.

I have a 22 1/2" GT and totally dislike the Thunderguts. Has anyone used flatwounds? Does the neck handle the added tension? I've got a spare set of shortscale TI Jazz Flats here, but they're too expensive to just try if it aint gonna work.
Should have said without modification. If you have a fretted model and want to use their goldtone flats, you have to send back to goldtone and they will route the saddle so the bridge can be moved back for proper intonation. Fretless model you just adjust finger placement to intonate. And the pahahoes for right length are smaller diameter than ubass and slightly higher tension than ubass so the tendency to roll is less.
I took the plunge and installed TI Jazz Flats on my Mbass. Great!! I had to shorten them a lot, so measured 3" past the post, bent at sharp rightangle to stop unravelling, the cut just past the bend. The E string I needed to file the nut and bridge saddle to lower it. Well worth it. Wish I'd done it years ago, I might have actually used it. I chose TI Jazz Flats for two reasons, I had them, and they are the most flexible flats available. A tweak on the trussrod and it's gig-worthy!
Yes, intonation is fine to about 12th fret. I haven't checked it beyond that because my fingers are too fat to play up there anyway!
Just joined the club with a 23" fretless acoustic. Loving it so far. Apparently new strings aren't sticky (the ones in the store were). I'm planning to keep them powdered to see how that works.
Also purchased the Blackstar Fly bass amp with extension cab for portable amplification. Never could get the speakers to quit rattling. Returned it. Considering a Pignose but wonder if I should just cut to the chase and get the Roland. There seems to be some love here for the Pignose, yes? But the Roland is expensive...
Or a power pack for my QSC K10. It sounds good through that with only the built-in pre-amp.
There really is no cure for GAS.

I've been using the same Fly3 Bass dual box rig with a couple of acoustic bass ukes and never had a rattle problem. I also use it with my harmonica and a Shaker mic. A couple of weeks ago at the Sunday acoustic in the park group I play uke with, a guy brought his U-bass and a single Fly3 guitar amp, I loaned him my rig, which he played for the next 2 hours, then said he's buying one.
@kohanmike what settings do you use on the Fly? I found that if I kept the volume really low with almost no gain, I could stop the rattle. The EQ, compressor and sub settings didn't seem to make much difference. Maybe it was just a defective unit. Something loose inside...
I have Gain Level about 11 o'clock, OD button up, EQ Depth about 10 o'clock, Comp. Ratio at 9 o'clock, SUB all the way to the left, and Volume Level at 4 o'clock. I then control the volume and EQ on the instrument or harmonica mic (which has it own volume control). I just tested it and even at high volumes it doesn't rattle. Yours must be defective in some way.
What strap do you use?
No one warned me about neck dive. Yeah, I know they're so light it hardly matters but I'd like for it to stay in place when I take my hands off. The 3.5" suede strap I use for electric basses seems like overkill. How do you keep yours in place? Thx.
