Good 410 cab for 71' Ampeg V4B

Hi, I'm torn as to what 410 cab to purchase for my V4B. Right now I have a GK 410T which is impossible to find info on, but it's an older GK cab that runs at 4ohms. The 410T is really punchy but lacks the low end. I'm not looking for a cab with thunderous low-end, I actually prefer boosting the mids to cut through the noise of our guitar player & drummer who plays really heavy. However, I just need a good sounding cab which runs at 4ohms.

I've looked at the 410HLF but quite honestly I don't want something even that substantial. Something more like the 410HE would suit my needs but that leads into my next question...

since the 410HE runs at 8ohms how will that affect the sound compared to the 410HLF at 4ohms - considering I'll be using my old V4B which is only 100 watts. It's loud enough for the venues I usually play, but I cant afford to lose any more volume. You can switch the V4B from 2, 4, or 8 ohms, so I could switch to 8 and get the 410HE...

I'm just confused. Also I've heard that the ported cabs don't produced a "vintage" sound if that makes any sense.

any suggestions? I appreciate it

i play a 73' V4B(when its working right) thru an Eden D410XLT.

it rocks. i had the same comments from people about playing a tube head thru a ported cab, but it sounds perfect for what i use it for. i especially like the low-mid bump thats inherent in that cab, and it works beautifully for cutting thru a mix. my cab is 8ohms, and i have no problem being heard over 2 halfstacks and a heavy-handed drummer. also, correct me if im wrong, but in a tube amp, you still get the same output wattage regardless of ohm setting. just set the switch on the back of the amp to match your cab.

If this is true then my problems are solved because there are several 8 Ohm cabs that I'm interested in. I was just worried about less output.

Yes, tube powered amps have the same max power rating (and potental volume level) into any matching ohm rating cab they're designed to operate at.

With that said, I really dig my Bergantino NV610 with my old Ampeg V4 and I think you probably would too. This may not bother you, but the only thing I dont like is the look of a wider head (27-3/4") on a narrower cab (24"), but you'll probably have that same issue with most other cab choices too.

Well I finally made a decision and ended up purchasing an Ampeg BSE-410-HLF. 400 watts @ 4 ohms. It should be delivered in a couple days, I'll let you know how it turns out.

also just got my old V4B back from the tech and it is sounding amazing. Can't wait to pair it up with the new cab!

So will you be stacking that with the GK and running the V4 @ 2 ohms? Should be a killer stack!

The ones in that pic are guitar cabs. The speakers probably wouldn't like all the bass. Side note- the store that this picture is from has some really cool gear. HUGE selection of tuck-n-roll Kustoms in a rainbow of colors.

I finally got the setup last night and I was thinking the same thing. The BSE 410 HLF sounds exactly how I thought it would - a lot of low end - at least much more than I'm used to - sounds sick! If I ever needed to I could pair it with the GK 410T. Might be ridiculous, but then our drummer said "sometimes ridiculous is good" ha!

The V4B came back from the shop last week and sounded great, but started making some really weird crackling followed by phaser type noises when hitting a low F. I brought it back and they said they couldn't find the problem. After screwing around with it for hours I realized the problem was with the ultra-low end switch. It seems like the connection is loose or the switch is dirty because when I play the F and I hear the phaser/popping sound, if I push in the ultra-low end switch it immediately stops. Then after about 10 more minutes of playing it will happen again. It's as if the low F is vibrating the switch out of position. Weird problem. I might try taping it down.
