Good advice you didn't take?

Don't trade that 1958 refin P bass that you bought for $1200 for a Lakland 55-94 worth $2000. The only instrument transaction in my life that I truly regret.
you what now

OK, so wise advice given but not heeded. I've been playing bass for 39 years. You're asking for a recollection of the first 37 or so....

OK, a twisted semi-example I'll give you that noone told me, but should have been obvious (put this in teh think before you act file):
Don't fire the drummer when all the band's gear is in his basement. Yes, that should have been obvious, but four of us (at the time) 20 somethings completely missed that.

I went looking for the "cringe" button on this one, but alas there's only a like button.

Reminds me of the time we were coming back for the second set and our drummer, who'd been doing who knows what for the last 25 minutes, and was the last one back on stage, sat down at his kit, then looked up and shouted "I gotta pee!" And left the stage, went to the bathroom, and came back, while we all stood around on stage. After a minute, we couldn't help but start laughing.

Use earplugs. I do now after playing in metal bands for years without them, sticking my head in between a marshall full stack, and angy drummer bashing the cymbals while the bass amp is cranked up right at my 4$$. USE EARPLUGS!! DO YOU HEAR MEEE?
Yeah... My wife spent ten years right in front of me and in line with the main PA cabs. I'm sure she was making sure my eyes didn't wander... But now twenty years later she suffers aweful hearing loss and constant ringing in her ears..... Young bass warriors, his words are wise ones. Ear plugs. Use em.
