I'm sure, that I'm not the first one, who struggles with finding a good alternative to a Noble Tube Preamp. But till now i didn't find a Thread, wich led me to the right decision, so I thought, I give it another try.
The Noble is really great. I borrowed it for some concerts and it really took my sound to another level. Also the sound engineers mentioned, that they never got such an "easy to deal with"-bass sound before.
But not only, that other Tube Preamp Pedals are way cheaper, but also the thought that my mind might hype it a little to much, just because my favorite Bassplayers like Tim Lefebvre, Mark Kelley, etc. are endorsing it and they are doing a great marketing, led me to the decision, that I want to check, if there is something similar and more or less equal in sound but more affordable.
I love the idea about the reduced controls, because a lot of other onboard tube preamps have way to much parameters for my taste. I'm worried, that this leads to sort of "overEQing", like with the LeBass.
Another thing I like is, that you have a pedal, wich you can fix on your pedalboard, so you have nothing else, wich you have to carry for studio and live situations. For example, I love the sound of the Arkham preamps, but sadly, they're not fixable to a pedalboard and more inconvenient to carry.
And compared to most pedals, wich have been already recommended to me in this context, the Noble just seems to be made for making the sound fatter, warmer and rounder. Others often seem more to be designed as drive-pedals for rock or metal bassplayers.
I play a great variety of musical styles, like Hip Hop, R n' B, Pop, Soul, Funk, etc., so it should be more usable for that.
Some of the pedals, wich have gotten my attention, are the GP Lightstone Emperor, the ShiftLine Olympic MkII, Bass tube preamps from Reußenzehn and the WR Goliath tube bass preamp. Have you guys some experiences with one of these?
I'm really interested in what you guys think.
