Good Amp for Recording

I would love my bass tones to be similar to Duck Dunn.

What a great sound. Duck is one of my bass heroes, too. Precision bass with flats into an Ampeg SGT-DI or a Sushi Box Grand Slampegg. Unless you have access to a Kustom tuck-n-roll amp and cab. If so, may I come by and play?

Grew up on a tascam 4 track cassette unit. I think they went for about $100. Kind of funny the usb interface is about the same 30yrs later.

I think less knobs the better for starting out. I never got better going to digital. For me, mic and DI and get a good take was always better than trying to patch in and get fancy with software as an amateur.

It’s fun to re amp and play with knobs but that needs to happen after the good take which too many knobs and gizmos distracts from getting.

I agree - the less knobs the better. I'm using a Fostex MR8 and it's very straightforward to use.

After getting a take, I export it to a computer where I may add a little compression and cut any muddy frequencies while mixing.

When I get an interface, I'll probably be looking to keep doing what I've been doing.

My suggestion would be to buy something like the Fender Downtown Pre-Amp DI and record direct. Then use one of many VST tools to add the effects and amp sound you are looking for.
