Double Bass good amp/mics to amplify my bass?

help please...

im a recent convert from electric to double bass and im having all sorts of problems getting a good sound.
im thinking of buying acoustic image clarus 2 channel and running it through my schroeder mini12". im hoping to use a channel for my david gage realist and the other for a condenser mic.
my question(s)- any amps i should be looking at, and any decent clip on condenser mics you know of? im thinking audio technica atm350. any suggestions would be greatfully recieved.

If you can fill out your profile too, it makes it easier for us to offer suggestions. What do you have now, and what kinds of problems are you having with the sound?

thanks, just updated my profile. i did a recording the other day on DB and they took a feed from my Realist pickup and then pointed a condenser mic (rode nt1) and blended the two. when i heard it back, i noticed how much nicer the tone is with the blend. the realist sounded a bit 'nasal' when on its own. ive found that i havent been able to get much of the full sound of the DB with my Gallien Kreuger MB150s, and not a lot of volume before feedback kicks in. Ive just bought a Acoustic Image Clarus 2R head (paid for, hasnt arrived yet) with the hope of blending the Reaist with a mic. Possibly a Audio Technica ATM35, or ATM350- not sure what the differences are. Any thoughts on amps/mics/cabs?

Yeah I usually blend a mic and p/u too.

Cabs? Whole 'nuther huge set of choices. I like Euphonic Audio's offerings myself.

what mic's do you use? im concerned that a condenser mic will pickup a rowdy drummer. where do you find is a good place to place the mic on/around the DB?

I use a Beyer M 88 TG mic and mount it on the bass using an H-clamp from ExplorAudio. Pics shown here.

I have also used (and have recently been experimenting again) with an AMT S25B mic.

Optimal placement will vary based on your instrument and preferences. I really like the area halfway between the bridge and the end of the FB.

Yeah when using mics you have to be very conscious of where you are on the bandstand, esp. relative to drums. Toward that end, some people feel dynamic mics are better at resisting bleed than condensors .. again, I think we're talking live use v. studio. Read that big thread in my prev post for more on that.

Running a mic into a PA only v. running a mic into your amp is also different in some very important ways, so you need to know the context you're in.
