I started working on amplifiers as a teenager, in Augusta, Ga. The local music store, Schneider’s, got so tired of me hanging around they gave me a job after school. I played on weekends, hung out, humped gear for Dixie Grit and swapped gear back and forth with Steve Morse. Got tired of playing in bar bands and tried my luck in Nashville as a guitarist. I had some success with various artists (Razzy Bailey, Gary Morris)

I love building tube amplifiers, cabinets, pedal boards, and the occasional vintage automobile. I’ve been repairing amps for studio and touring people here in Nashville since 1986.

Tube Amplifier and Guitar Expert Repairs - Repair Bootcamp Training

Greg is a hell of a guy and he'll take the time to talk to you about your gear, tone goals and how to achieve them. He specializes in tube amps, but he can repair anything. He installed a Mike Pope preamp into my Modulus Q5 with ease. He suggested a great sounding tube for my Read Purity.

Up for sale is a cosmetically unique Mesa Boogie Buster 200 all tube bass amp.

It has been given a clean bill of health by my local amp genius Glen Morris , and had a power and standby switch upgrade. The power and standby switches are the ONLY mechanical things that have been changed.

What can I say? Genius? Most excellent amp repair guy? A true guitar hero? A really nice guy, who has great amp chops, with mods and classic Fender amps,as well as rarities like my Magnatone 260, this guy loves Marshalls, and is reasonable as far as price goes. I can't say enuff good things about Greg, except we miss him in Hollywood, but the trek to the Valley is well worth it.

I endorse Steve the Rock N Roll Doctor.
I play out in Los Angeles two-four times a week. I only use boutique tube amps like Tone-King and Holland. I also have a Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I beat on these amps. Drop them, shock them, bang them, hurt them. They are always heading to the shop due to my abuse.

Rock N Roll Doctor has always fixed my amps FAST. sometimes in a day. On the rare occasions I had to go elsewhere for repair I was gouged - once a $75 bench charge where the repair tech couldn't locate the problem and once there was a $300 repair job where the tech made my amp worse.
In both cases I returned to Steve and he fixed them fast for less than $50.

He is kind, passionate, conscientious and knowledgeable. even when we have different tastes, he does his best to meet my needs.

Write me if you have any questions.

I have used Chris Barnett in San Rafael, California for two amp repair projects. Not only did he do a great job on both of them, but he got them back when he said he would and at the price he said it would be. He went above and beyond simple repair (at my request) and made one of the amps (Peavey Vintage 6x10) that was originally a guitar amp suitable for bass. He beefed up the insides of the boutique amp that had blown its filter caps (again after checking with me first). He works by appointment only.

C'Mon! Someone in Oklahoma please post a recomendation. I've had a couple of problems but really nobody to trust. The tech I trusted around here passed away 2 years ago so...
I let a "friend" who works on computers and other electronics work on a practice combo. Now it's completely unplayable!
I live in the Oklahoma City area. Thanks!

:hyper: I'm not one to toot my own horn (very often), but after 44-years in the business of designing, building and repairing 'consumer electronics'(amps included), more than 60,000 successful repairs under my belt...I am the best amp technician I've encountered. About the only thing I completely understand is electronics...women are still a mystery. I reside in Northern Illinois (Richmond,), I'll be happy to help, explain or repair. Thank-you for your attention.:bassist:

Thanks for offering to help and explain the tech stuff. :hyper:

In the Seattle WA area, I highly recommend:

Bruce Girard

Morgan Sound
Lynwood WA.
425-670-1656

As an authorized Fender repair shop for the Puget Sound area, Bruce has done serious work on my SWR and Genz Benz amps.

Unfortunately there's only one of him, so his turnaround time is about 3-4 weeks, and he's not going to be cheap.

Bruce is knowledgeable, very friendly, and he fixes it right!
