I'm currently working on the preproduction with my group and the only Mic that I've liked so far is an SM57 which sounds good when mixed with a DI, but I was hoping someone would be able to suggest some other good mics that have worked out well when recording bass. Any good sugestions?

Good Bass microphones ?

I have (2) SM57's and they are great all purpose microphones. In addition I have (1) SHURE BETA 52A which is primarily a kick drum mic but can also be used for bass cabs. Check it out for yourself, it is more $$$ and a step up in general. Read the reviews, ask this forum etc.....good luck

While the SM57 is the ultimate work horse mic, I personally wouldn't use it to mic a bass cab if I had other options.

Heil PR30 and PR40's get a lot of love around here lately.
General concerns about the D112's, Audix D6 and other traditional kick drum mic's is that they have an overall scoop built into them that can reduce bass frequencies... depending on your taste in bass tone.
Someone wanting a metal scooped type bass tone could love kick drum mic's on their cabinets.
Personally I've been using a cheap Samson Q-kick along with DI on my cabinets. It's inexpensive and seems to do really well without much of the others scoop. I however intend to snatch a Heil PR40 once I find an appropriate chance.

Shure SM7B has always worked well for me, though I'm very interested in A/Bing against HEIL PR30/40.

Another note, the sm7b is a strong contender if you wanna use it for other stuff like vocals, etc.
If you're on a budget or if you use the mic line just to give the DI line some beef, 57 works.
