Well im seriously looking at getting a bass stack soon. I got a 5-string washburn (and yes I use the 5th string often) I am in a band and we gig every now and then, I used to use a crate gfx 212t (crappy solid state guitar amp) I play heavy rock, like mudvayne, killswitch engage, atreyu, avenged sevenfold.... Whats a good stack, Im lookin to spend a grand to a grand and a half.

new or used?, id say for a good stack would be two avatar 8 ohm b212s, www.avatarspeakers.com =$642, which leaves you $358-858 for a head, you can buy both new and used heads or pre/power for that amount, but youll get oter great responses soon
a little over budget, but a bag end 15, a bag end 12, and a thunderfunk 420 head should treat ya right.

Sounds like a couple of 4x10's are needed. Check Avatar, they should have something that would fit the bill. Or CGM, they make great cabs for little $$. Basson would work too, although a little pricier.
As for heads, see what kind of $$ is left and then buy accordingly.
A 1001RB-II ($600/riks) and an Avatar B212 ($321-30/Avatar) is a very nice one. I know from personal expeirence, and if you will exuse me...I'm about to get some more personal expeirience.

Well, it's not exactly a "stack", but you could pick up that $600 1001RB-II from Rik's, as mentioned above, and still have enough in that $1500 budget to grab either the Schroeder 410 or 21012.... when I bought my 21012, they were $855...

For the heavy rock stuff i would go Ashdown ABM500 head and at least the 4 x 10 cab and add the 1 x 15" cab if you have funds at the time or later.
