Good but cheap 1X15 cab

Well, Carvin is a mail/internet order company, and only has stores in California, but we don't know where you are because you didn't bother to fill out your profile.
IMO, some of the best deals on amps and cabs are from online retailers such as Carvin, Avatar, etc. Even for common brands such as G-K, which many brick and mortar stores carry, the best deals are usually online at RMC Audio.
But we still don't know where you are and what your local music store carries.
Yeah, good point - I have an old Traynor TS-115 that's currently loaded with a Black Widow, but it was pretty impressive with a Kappa LFA in there - I'd bet one of those would kick ass with a 3015 or 3015LF in there, and they can be had cheap...

You might want to get hold of Don at Low Down Sound and see how much it would cost to build a 115 cab with a Kappalite 3015 and a tweeter or any other 15 he recommends. His cabinets are well built and a step up from most of the middle of the road cabs like Peavey and Carvin. Don't get me wrong, Peavey and Carvin make good sounding cabs but LDS are in a different class.
HEllo: Just got an ampeg B115E BSeries 1X15 cab(8ohms) for $ 375...new...just a point of comparison......to anything else...I ran a B2re head through it alone and it sounds great!....

So, what puts LDS in a "higher class" than the USA made Carvins? Both are US made, with similar materials... I'd say both appear to be of similar quality... Carvin just sells more quantity...
And while looking for used Carvin bass gear, you'll notice most owners are keeping theirs! Says a lot about quality and longevity.
I've been using an '80 Carvin LB50 bass and '81 Carvin 1x15 cab for over 30 years. Both are still rocking!!
New Carvin bass cabs are well made, and now their choices include several colors of "tolex" (though not the Tolex brand)... No matter where you are, Carvin offers a 10 day free trial. That should be enough time to put their gear through its paces!
And, NO, Carvin isn't paying me. However, I have purchased quite a bit of Carvin gear over the years (guitar, bass, cabinets, pickups, mics, cables, pa gear, etc). And I'm recommending Carvin based upon my experience.
I've played out of Carvins, Ampegs, SWR's, Hartke, and Peavey's. I've always come back to my Carvin. I have a ProBass 350 that is a 115 combo. That thing is meaty. I also have a 410 'red eye' cab. Both are tanks and well made. Couldn't recommend Carvin's enough. Made in US too.
Bag End S15X-D is a great standalone 1x15 cab, I have one and use it for 90% of my gigs on its own, very musical cab with just the right amount of everything to my ears! You can pick a used one up for under $400...
You can find Epifani Epifunky 115 cabs for under $400. Very light, and a good, clear, punchy sound.

I have one and it is gr8 sounding 500watts @ 8OHM very deep but punchy too nice response outstanding clarity can handle low B's all day
I just got a well used Mesa 115, precursor of the diesel I think, for $100. The 200W speaker in it would be ok for practice & medium duty work, but I also need it to play out, so I got a 3015 used on TB, $130, so with some elbow grease I can tune it a bit myself and still be << $400.
