I'm also a big fan of the Radial JDI it's great. If that doesn't work space wise for you the Radial stagebug would be a good smaller option. There is a passive version.

Good but small passive DI box?

The Whirlwind IMP-2 would work well for you. Small, inexpensive and does the job. I've seen a coupla "best DI" lists done by gear reviewers that rated it highly and on par with other units that are considerably more expensive. I've had good luck with mine.
While I too love my trusty JDI, but if you're looking for small, cheap, and good, it's pretty hard to beat the humble IMP!
Radial Pro DI. I use passive bass 100%of the time and my j48 has been a killer work horse. Built like a tank and sounds killer both live and in the studio.

Those are very good, the transformer is not as good as others. Also, be aware there is no ground lift.
Sorry, yes very good for the price. They are built to last, super small, transformer is great for the price (It's no Jensen, and likely spec wise cheaper than some of the others Rapco offers in other boxes, but the sound difference in a live situation likely won’t be noticeable) They do one job and do it well.

Yup. A radial or other nice DI is great for studio or a nice listening room with a good PA and engineer. It’s matters a lot less in a dive bar with an old behringer PA.
