Good combo amp under $400??

I don't need one, but my buddy in Boston is looking for one for his son for xmas - - wants something that will keep up with drums/guitar amps for teen-jamming - - wants to buy NEW (which I really hate) - -

any suggestions?

the ampeg ba115 is in that price range. but be warned it wont hiss in the store but when you get it home it will hiss like crazy. It was an alright practice amp though. It was loud enough to be heard over drums and a 75 watt fender princeton 65 reissue. I blew the speaker in mine. it sat for a while and then I built a omni 2x10 cab and made it a combo amp with the amp section for the ba115 it accually sounds better as a 2x10 then it ever did as a 1x15

Care to elaborate abit about hissing? Can it be solved by using some voltage regulator?

Bought a used (3 months old) Acoustic B200 for my grandson a few months ago. He has been very happy with this amp.

You may also want to consider the Acoustic B200H (head) with the B115 cabinet for only $50 more. This would give him more flexibility by adding another cabinet in the future.

+1 on the acoustic B200. I have the B200 head, but I have played the B200 combo in a practice studio, and it sounded great. I also have an AB50 for practicing at people's houses, and small coffee shop and restaurant gigs. I've even played the AB50 in larger coffee shops with a drummer, and it was definitely loud enough, but it just had an ugly sound at those levels.

I had one. USA made, bought used for under $200 (it was a steal) worked great never hissed.
