Good DI in the $100 range?

I never tried the Rertrospec, but would love to some day, I have a small collection of DIs and do a fair amount of playing on other peoples recordings where I'm always pulling something else out and done a fair share of A/B-ing...In a decent mix I can hear it the difference.

To be fair, both the missing link and the retrospec are transformerless. You are certainly going to hear a difference between those and a Jensen transformer based DI. But, I consider the transformer to be a flavor. A great flavor, just perhaps not always an appropriate one. Of course, if you are only going to be using one DI, a Jensen may be the way to go if that is what works for you.

Yeah, I had a JDV and it was a wonderful DI. Excellent, clear tone and fairly portable as Basswave notes. Also used a REDDI for several months and it, too, provides wonderful tube tone - especially if you're looking for that warm Ampeg tube vibe. Funny, though, I've reverted to the JDI because the performance is "good enough" (darn "excellent" dare I say) without having to hassle with extra weight, size, and power issues for the other DIs. I've learned nothing trumps simplicity as long as you're getting the near equivalent performance of those higher end active DIs. If you're making studio-grade recordings for professional albums etc. either the REDDI or JDV are spot on. If you're like the rest of us, the Radial JDI is more than adequate for a reasonable price.

Ok, after using the JDI this weekend, I'm sold.

It is literally the best my basses have sounded through the PA, probably ever. Clean, clear, perfect tone.

Our sound man loved it, too.
