Double Bass Good Electric Bass Strings for an Upright Player

My P bass is strung with LaBella Jamerson flats and my fretless J bass is strung with LaBella black tapes. I'm in the same camp with DC Bass about flats on a P. The easiest way I can describe the low end of my P bass is that it's really big. I enjoy the black tapes on my fretless, it's a nice cross of the tone of a flat and round, but the low tension is hard to adjust to. If I'm swapping from my Upright to my P bass during a performance, my right hand adjusts really easily to the P bass, while with the J bass the adjustment to the tapes if really tough (they're really easy to overplay).

I like D'Addario Chromes, use them on my '66 P-Bass, my Jerry Jones Longhorn, and my Danelectro Longhorn, too. A little too bright when brand new, but they mellow out after a week or so. BTW, I use Corelli strings on the upright.

I own a fretless Epi Zenith with flat tape wounds. For anything close to that price range, I've never heard a BG sound more like an upright.

I've enjoyed Chromes in the past. Now will it sound like an upright? Probably not quite. Closest i got to an upright sound was fretless bass, chromes, with felt mute under the strings at the bridge. Gives a kind of thumpy sound and has attack closer to an upright.

I like TI jazz flats. Stiffer flats hurt my fingers when I pluck. One major adjustment for me when playing electric is to avoid digging in as hard as I do on DB. It definitely takes a more delicate touch.

Nothing on Rotosound's "Tru Bass 88" tapewound set? I had those things for a while on my Kramer fretless and with how I had everything set they sounded more like my upright than any other string I tried.
