IMO, she's a surprisingly good blues singer. Kind reminds me a little of Maria Muldaur.

Yeah I'm a big fan, her brother is no slouch of a singer either. I really dig the songwriting on the new album, some very nice stuff on there.

I agree that Bonnie Raitt is a good choice. My personal favourites are Big Annie's Fanny by Grana Louise and I'm a Woman by Koko Taylor. Also, Joanne Shaw Taylor is a good one to check out.

Grana Louise is actually going to be in a documentary called Women in Blues. Joanne Shaw Taylor is too I think and Ruthie Foster.

I'd like to chime in with more of a rockin' soul number. I was in a band years back that used to cover this cut and it always brought the house down (helps if you have the right vocalist.)

I mean--listen to the way this song builds and builds!



For more "blues" stuff, my tastes run more to the rural, pre-WWII era stuff.

(You wanna hear something that'll shock you, go YouTube up "Shave 'Em Dry" by Lucille Bogan. Recorded in 1935, and I assure you--it would be globally banned from the radio even today.)
