Fanny, the late 60s early 70s girl group, did some pretty good bluesy tunes.

Zombie thread alert! I got my female-fronted band to learn this killer tune by Tedeschi/Trucks:


We also do Hurts So Bad by Tedeschi, Mercy by Duffy, and Free Your Mind by En Vogue, but I'm looking to add a LOT more female-fronted blues, soul/R&B, and funk! The guitarist in the band is a pretty cool guy, but he's inundated the set list with WAAAAAY too much whitebread top 40 and modern cutesy pop tunes. The female singer can wail, it's kind of sad to hear her sing stuff like Crimson and Clover by Joan Jett.

Anyway, please keep the female blues/soul/funk ideas coming... especially tunes that will fit a guitar/bass/drums trio (with occasional harp). TIA!

The link to the studio version on YouTube is broken, but it's on the album Joyful Noise (one of the best albums ever made IMHO) Don't really like much of any of the stuff he made following that album.. but I idolized him from the moment I saw him jamming as wee lad with his uncle at an Alllman Bros. concert in Long Island.

BTW, the singer, Susan Tedeschi, became his wife soon afterwards, and now they have kids and such...

I would highly recommend checking out Eva Cassidy , Valerie Wellington " Cold ,Cold , Feeling " - Big Mama Thornton's original " Hound Dog " and anything by Bettye Lavette- 2cd the mentions of Sue Foley ,Beth Hart and Maria Muldar's version of "Cajun Moon " in particular .

I've been a Marcia Ball fan for a long time; Susan Tedeschi almost as long. Didn't like Janis when she was still performing - the stage antics and trainwreck life put me off - but I have come to appreciate the music in later years. (And who'd have guessed she was a Porsche-driving golfer ?)
