Good music for Kids

Zappa for kids? seriously? Better choose carefully, unless you don't mind exposing them to profanity and raunchy sexual language.
I remember listening Just Another Band From LA and Live at the Filmore many times as a child.
he cuss words totally cracked me up, raunchy sexual language went over my head. (What was my Dad thinking?)
+1 to They Might Be Giants and the Beatles.
As a youngun, I also dug Elvis, Buddy Holly, and the Beach Boys
...until AC/DC stole my lil heart.

big +1 on they might be giants, my kids love "no" as well as here comes the abc's, 123's and science. you can also check out the terrible twos, they have two records, jerzy the giant and if you ever see an owl. the band is basically the new amsterdams playing kids music, both records are awesome.
Some of the more easily accessible classical stuff - Tchaikowsky, Mussorgsky's "Night On Bare Mountain", Peter and the Wolf, Sorcerer's Apprentice. Disney movies were full of this stuff for a reason.
The main thing is VARIETY. As a kid there was always music playing in our house and I can remember listening to Motown, orchestral stuff, jazz, Beatles, film scores... One of the things I remember liking when I was very young was Billy Cobham's "Spectrum". As was said above, who knows why kids (or adults) like what they like?
Of course, they lose all capacity for enjoying muic in that way once they hit their teens and choose one tiny genre to glue themselves to for the next 10 years or so. I know I did, but that phase passed and now I'm back to just enjoying music again.
