Double Bass good theory book to get me started!

I find that I never can use only one book. I think it's best to get a few books so you can cross reference back and forth.
It's imposible to tell what books will appeal to your learning style. So take a change and grab a good few, even if some never get used.

the first and only music book i purchased befor college was bass guitar for dummies and it taught me enough to be able to start in the concert band a year early on doublebass, even though i learned all my theory from a electric based (no pun intended) book, also self taught prior to enrolling.

Any opinions on The Evolving Bassist by Rufus Reid? I just picked it up and it seems very well laid out and my new instructor told me to bring it along to my first lesson.

Rufus Reid's 'Evolving Bassist' is one of the classic jazz bass method books. It was one of the first books that I learned with back in the late '70s. That book, along with a good teacher, can get you very far.
