Good times by Chic, a difficult bass line??

I just improvise over the original bassline just for the fun of it...Theres only too many things you can do with it and not ruin the awesome groove this bassline has.

the same goes with "I want your love"....AWESOME bassline...it's not hard...but it's so much fun to play!

The bass line is completely wrong in measure 4!

So many play the iconic bass line but I've yet to see a single person play it correctly with the right feel.

I agree, that is wrong, all in 8th when bernard play some 16th notes in the bass line

I had it wrong - was playing the first part chromatically instead of E Dorian.
Got it right now. It's just such a cool bass line.

I can play faster than that, but damm you need good precise, groovy playing, what do you think about this bass line and how do you approch it?

Playing "fast" has little to do with it. Thank God.
Note placement, rest placement, note duration (staccato/legato/full value), note articulation (stressed, ghosted, muted, etc)...when I realized I would never be a speed freak, I listened harder to the "other stuff".

Yes, speed does not make something difficult. I think that playing quarter notes at 60 bpm on a metronome is harder than playing 8th notes at 120 bpm. The difficulty factor with "Good Times" is the GROOVE. You either have the groove or you don't. Just playing the notes and rhythms is not the whole thing. His feel and sense of groove are what stand out for me.

I totally agree, Bernard's feel/groove was out of this world. He was definitely tuned in to some magical vibrations.
