It depends on the situation. I don't tinker with the physical parts of a computer, but I'm pretty much able to troubleshoot/fix whatever goes wrong with a pc.

@fdeck: I take your points and respect your knowledge. But I would add that being "good with computers" means being good with them as they currently are, warts and all, however different that is from the ideal. And that applies to any system you care to name. They're all products of historical contingency. If we could scrap the lot and start from scratch knowing what we do now, we'd end up with some very different computers, I think.
