Goodbye to Quincy

He literally “did it all” ...

Yep. It was precisely that vast range of Q's comprehensive skills -- as performer, arranger, composer, music director, contractor, sidekick, confidant, therapist, technical coordinator, visionary...he really did do it all! -- that defined what it means to be a "Producer" in the modern recording industry.

...in fact, he set the bar so high that I would argue there hasn't been a "Producer" in the past two or three decades who even came close to possessing Q's range of skills. Sad state of the industry? or was he just that much better than everybody else?

Either way, his passing is a great loss. RIP. :(

btw, these are two of my favorite tracks he produced, one from his 1981 album The Dude, and the other from Donna Summer's 1982 eponymous album:
