Google Chrome Browser Released!

I'm testing it out so far. It's not better than firefox. Maybe it's better than Opera I dunno, maybe not yet. But I really like some of the ideas, the searching from the address bar is way quicker than Firefox, it loads faster than it can handle. [It seems to be trying to give the fastest display even though it is still loading while firefox loads then displays but very quickly] I tried to log into UPS's website and couldn't. Only problem so far and some weird thing happened with EBay. I like how it tells you the domain of every website and it wanrs you if there is a bad certificate and crosses out the Https in red if their certificate is no longer good.

If you're using this and want ad blocking there is a bit of a roundabout solution, but it works and it works well.

1. Download & install Privoxy
2. And then set Google chrome’s proxy options:
Options->Under the hood->change proxy settings->Lan Settings
Check: “Use a proxy server for your LAN”
And under advanced add proxy address 127.0.0.1 port 8118 for http and secure but leave ftp blank.

This browser definitely has some kinks, but it is still technically beta. I'm sticking with it. (and using privoxy for those who are unsure, it works nicely)

as far as i'm concerned until a browser comes out where it can make my breakfast i perfectly content with the best browser there is: Firefox.

on a side note, d'ya notice how whenever people talk about which browser is better than another IE almost never pops up as a competitor. It's no wonder why but its interesting to think about. If Windows didn't bundle their crap browser with every OS then people could have a much more pleasant interwebbing experience.

I use IE7 most of the time just because of past experience. I used to use Opera, FF, Mozilla, MyIE2 (Maxthon later), but I always had to keep IE handy (except with MyIE2, it was just a skinned IE with tabs) for secure sites like my bank account page and stuff like that. I think they are all better now, but IE still works.

As long as MS keeps shucking out free fixes for whatever they find wrong, I don't care.

I should probably worry about stray bullets and lightning strikes, too.

Have you ever really read the release notes on the hotpatches they release? Most of them say stuff like :

"A vulnerability exists in Internet Explorer which allows an attacker to take control of your media files in Windows Media Player if you open a webpage that contains malicious code and allow that code to run by clicking yes to allow the ActiveX control to run. Apply this patch to fix that vulnerability."

And really, you'd be surprised at how many of the "high alert" patches read very much like that. There are plenty of real high risk threats, but a good percentage of the fixes are released over things that are basically dead ends as far as system control goes.

edit:BTW, I've been running several months without an anti-virus on WinXP. Careful internet usage is better than any anti-virus I've ever used.

edit 2: I probably just jinxed myself by admitting that.
