GoPro 7 for recording performance?

Glad to hear this.

I ordered one of these for the same purpose, and it’s due tomorrow. Also ordered the Media Mod. I have a couple questions for you, if you don’t mind..

Are you using the internal microphones?

How are you finding the battery life?

How much storage capacity are you using at your selected resolution?

Thanks!

Sorry for the side track, @evlwevl

Apologies for the late reply here.

I use the Media Mod also and have liked it.

I am using the internal microphones and it's been fine for how we've used it. Though I've heard a friend's Hero 9 with a Rode mic and it is an improvement. Just feels like the Rode I heard with it picks up only one direction and doesn't get room sound as well, but that could just be me.

Battery life is the one area I wish would be a bit better. I can get a 30-35 minute set captured on a charge shooting in 1080, but that's about it. I could attach a battery pack easily enough to help that though.

Storage capacity I think I'm using a 1TB card and I USUALLY shoot just in 1080, but I've done lots of 4k too. Plenty of space.

A few example videos here (and some shameless self promotion ;)):

Very nice!

I was able to record our 1 hour sets completely, with battery to spare, when I used 1080p @ 30fps. I just swapped batteries at break and was good to go. Audio was fine for my purposes, with the Media Mod, although I could have done a better job positioning the camera.

I’m considering that Rode micro, so I can separate the camera from the mic by a few feet.

Your editing is quite cool. What are you using? I’m just starting to venture down the rabbit hole. I did a bit with the Quik app, but it didn’t have enough control for me. I used Open Shot on my laptop, but stitching files together gives me a little static at the cut point. Maybe my laptop sucks. :D

Overall I’m quite pleased with the Hero 9. It’s very intuitive, once I spent time looking through all the menus. Performance is off the charts, better video quality than anything I’ve ever seen.

Nice stuff, but what I don't get is: the quality isn't bad, but not on par with a more recent iPhone. Even the mics of an iPhone sound better. I get it if people use a GoPro if they walk around with a cam or use it on a bike. But why using and buying an extra camera, if you have a better one in your pocket anyway?

Well, if this is your belief, it’s a simple choice, right? Nothing wrong with using an iPhone for everything.

I can’t say I agree with any of your points though. We all have our favorite flavors.
