Gorgeous Stingray Special

I’ll ask again @Scott Ball...when will the Sterling get the Special or BFR treatment?

They do sometimes release special limited Sterling models like this one:

Flame roasted neck, herringbone inlay on the back of the neck, white binding on the neck. I'm not sure why they haven't decided to start using the new bridge and hardware from the Specials on the Sterling models though.

That's what was thinking too but the GC pics show a bass with 3 band eq and battery compartments. The actual recent passive bfr ray should have the output jack on the front control plate and no batteries.

Damn, you're right, good catch. That is really odd. I'm looking at the details on the GC site and it does say it's limited to 81 pieces. It also shows that same flame maple neck.

Yeah, it's very odd. It's almost as if either EBMM had initially done the BFR as an active model and took some pictures of it which were sent to GC or maybe they had just photoshopped the control plate and battery compartments onto an unfinished body?

I've noticed a similar thing here in Canada where they had a ghostwood stingray with an ebony fretboard listed online but as far as I know, the ghostwood finish is only offered with the roasted maple fb.

We would like to see a revamped Sterling by the end of 2022..I can't give a hard date since there are so many variables outside our control....

No current plans for a BFR Sterling in 2021.

Dear Scott.
The Stingray Passive Okume is described in different ways, across different retailers.
Can you confirm that they're all Passive, with Slo necks ? or is there indeed different versions of this bass?

Sincerely

Jon

They're all passive. I'm guessing some retailers just copied and pasted some info about the usual Stingray Specials. I have one in my hand right now and it is indeed passive with the Slo neck.
