Got a 83'ish Peavey Foundation (pup ?)

So I grabbed this thing on the cheap... put some ultra lite tuners on and it plays great and sounds pretty damn good! But it had a broken split shaft for the 250k bridge pot. I was able to find some 500k long shaft today and replaced both the bridge and the neck pots with the 500k. I also picked up some .02 caps to install on the pots, like the OE wiring, but not sure if I need to put them on? I strung it up with some light gauge Daddario Chrome flat strings that are well used, so it has a pretty thumpy tone already and I didn't want anymore highs to roll off with the caps installed?

Was thinking of replacing the tone pot and cap as well, any suggestions? Maybe just another 500k tone pot with a standard cap?

Good score, its exactly like my 85 Foundation black on maple!

I have no idea about the pots but these are known to be fat and warm sounding basses stock...probably wont hurt to go 500 on the tone pot.

How much weight did you save on the tuners and what does your Foundation weigh?

The stock tuners are excellent quality but yeah a bit heavy.

Here's what the stock cavity is supposed to look like, if that helps. The little extra caps comprise Peavey's "tone compensating circuit". It preserves hi-freqs when volume is rolled back. Seems to work pretty good.

Info that I have;

The value of the three caps is:

.02 (C2 between R1 tone & R2 volume pot)
.001 (C3 & C4 at both volume pots )

Caps are numbered:
C2
C3
C4

Pots are numbered:
R1 Tone
R2 Volume
R3 Volume

Thanks a bunch guys! So, if I re-install both .02 caps on the volume pots it will help maintain treble? ie I like to run neck pup 100% and roll back bridge pup about 10% for a fatter tone with clarity from the bridge pup. I have noticed that the highs have gone a bit since the new pots were installed.

Great basses by the way ,I,ve got one recently,plenty of treble on these or lots of clarity depending on how you hear it.
They must be well built cause there is a lot of them still going strong and lots of love for these.
I have a foundation which going by the serial number is an 84 and a forum 95 and their bullet proof all original

I wired up the .022 caps to the volume pots and replaced the stock tone pot with another 500k pot and the original cap.

Wow, all the highs came back, or didn't leave when I rolled off the bridge pup a tad! What a great idea Peavey had. I have a Peavey Millennium Standard P/j passive with Dimarzio's and my USA Schecter Jazz with Man O' War pups I'm thinking of doing this cap thing to, any reason it wouldn't work with my other basses?
