Got a ticket :(

71 in a 60? In NJ that's a ticket for going too slow! ;)

Heh, that's the same around here. The odd thing was there was someone who passed me, I guess the cop wanted the easier kill.

Sucks man. Everything here is 65 or 55, and I tend to follow it by ~5 unless I'm on the thruway.

Normally I do 5 over on regular roads and 10 over on highway. I guess it's time I change this? :crying:

EDIT:

I got a ticket in '06 for a 1-9 violation, does anyone know how much this 11 over ticket is going to raise my insurance? That's 2 tickets within a year. What sucks is I have settled down a lot since the original ticket. I used to cruise around 90 and get upwards of 113/123 (depending on the vehicle I was in). Now I'm setting the cruise control to 9 over everytime I hit a highway just to make sure I don't get that 10 over violation. This case I was going downhill and didn't realize (care) that I was doing another 2mph.

Wait wait, you don't get a ticket if you go under 10?

In Virginia the penalty is stiffer for going 10 over. I think it's 3 points on your license for going 1-9 over and 4 points for 10-19 over. 20 over or anything above 80 and it's reckless driving, a class 1 misdemeanor criminal offense.

karrot, where were you caught and what did he use to get your speed?

you can, but most cops don't bother, because so many people go a little over.

a lot of cops i know really only go for people going 15+ over.
I know some departments actually have policies that they won't give tickets unless you're going a certain amount over. Someone told me around here it's 12+ but I don't know if that's accurate.

Rt. 29 is notorious for speed traps. It seems like it's the main revenue source for some of the local gov'ts so they give out tickets for ludicrous things like going 9 over the limit.

Was on the GSP yesterday going down to visit James in Toms River. Getting passed going 95.

Yes, that's with cops watching and not moving.

Either that or they were just surprised to see an El Camino doing 95 ;)
we're crazy here in jersey.

i was on 295 today, going between 80-85 and getting passed. (i was in the right lane of a 3 lane highway)

this was in the area where it's a 55 mph zone.

I find this hilarious as just a few minutes ago on the way back from work I flew by a cop doing 115 kph in a 60 kph zone, and the guy didn't even look twice!

Cops here are really, really leniant as long as you're not on a residential road.

Heck, not only for speeding, I got stopped on my bike while stoned, and they asked if it was stolen. it wasn't. They asked if I had been smoking, and I said "most likely". They laughed and went on with their life.

cool dudes. Sucks you got caught.

I was actually issued a wreckless ticket in June of 06. I was able to get that down to a 1-9 violation. I was pulled over on 29 going south, I think it was a little passed Warrenton. I have no idea what she used to get my speed.

it should say on your summons. I'm guessing either M RADAR or LIDAR. I ask because I'm trying to figure out who has laser these days. Also, do you remember if it was state police, county, sherriff, etc?

I got a reckless in '04 in Orange County. A girl I knew from school's dad just happened to be a lawyer in Orange County so I had an "in" to the good ol' boys network and got it reduced to speeding 74/55.

If the signposted speed is 60, and the flow of traffic is 71, and I don't want to pay a fine, they're going 'round me.

Then again, road rage isn't so free, easy and permanent than other places in the world and we don't have 5 lane, 2 hour traffic jams to get through either, so it's all relative to where we live I guess.

In those places, I'll go with the flow! :)
