So what's the idea behind the diptychs?

They make me think of life as how we perceive it and then there's life behind the scenes totally turned inside out. The negative makes me think of what is the underlying story of what's going on that we might not know about.

No, no animation.

I have only seen a couple of types of animation applied to these Mandelbrot type fractals. One animates the zooming in process, and so it appears you are travelling into the fractal. Another uses a technique called palette cycling. It simply cycles through the colors used in the palette. It produces an appearance of endless expansion or contraction.

My program was mainly developed to provide new tools for applying the colors. The fractal itself has infinite detail. the colors are essential to bringing out all the different features. It sort of allows a new look at a fractal that has been abandoned in favor of some new 3 dimensional ones. The black masses, easily seen in the last two images are the Mandelbrot set. The boundary around the set is the actual fractal.

It has also produced some unique images, which I believe no one else has done yet - the 2nd and 3rd images above with the bubble-like things.
