Recently, I bought a 1982 Fender walnut p bass special for a great price. It needed a little work. I took it to a luthier in San Antonio (a couple of hours away from where I live) because I will never trust myself when it comes to these things. Anyway, he put a new nut, adjusted the truss rod and bridge, fixed some wiring issues, installed a new output jack, adjusted the pickups, and put a new battery cover. The preamp is still a bit noisy, but I can live with it. I might buy a new one later. But playing the bass is just awesome. The neck is incredible. The sound the bass gets... Just wow. Easily the nicest bass I have ever owned. And the heaviest. I was going to sell it but nah I'll keep it. Not really an interesting post but I had to tell someone!
