I am one of those weirdos who prefers the 1001 to the 700. The extra watts allow for a cleaner low end, and the boost knob gets plenty of mid growl for me.

Got my first GK head yesterday (700RBII content!)

I am a long time user of the 1001rb-II and I've also been interested in the 700rb-II, I love the tone of the 1001rb-II but I no longer play in incredibly loud bands anymore so the 700rb-II would be cool. I've even considered one of the older 400rb's. Does anyone know if the growl goes into the DI signal?
It is. 800rb player and GK amp fan here. The whole 700/1001 thing sort of comes down to how like to play and sound. They are quite similair, just the 700 is in a power range you can turn it up, get "that" sound without being so incredibly loud, or blowing up smaller/fewer cabs. 1001 is big power, higher headroom. Still sounds GK, but you practically need a big festival stage or insanely loud metal show to really open that one up. 700 just seems to be in a sweeter spot levelwise for more folks regular type gig situations. It's no slouch either, can get way loud too.
Welcome to the fold! After about 26 years of my own journey with other tube and SS brands G-K landed me. G-K's are the only heads I have now, Ampegs, Sunns and Fenders are all gone to other players

They seem to get a very good rep around here. Funny enough, I think I've only heard of two or three people on the forums who have used/owned the 8x10. There doesn't seem to be many comparisons between the two cabs (despite there being a good number of threads asking if someone has compared the two).
I really like mine, I run a 550 Fusion thru it and very happy with how well it sounds on stage. Actually it's not that bad to move around, I used to haul mine in a HHR.

Congrads on your purchase. gallien-krueger makes awesome bass amps. I've own a gallien-krueger 700rb-II bass head myself. I use that along with a gallien-krueger neo 4x10 bass cab. it sounds awesome. If you want a light-weighted bass cab that has a totally awesome sound, definitely check out the neo 4x10 or the mbe 4x10(if you're on a tight budget).

Oh yeah, done that! I have a couple of live recordings done with a pocket digital recorder, amazing how well it sounds in the mix!!!

I use the MBF the most cause it's just so darn easy to carry, but I sure do like the biamp feature, with GK biamp cabs.
I suppose the 700 and 1001 have the potential to sound substantively different, but the way I use them, they seem pretty darn similar to me.

If you can, try out the 400RBIV. GK started making them again. I've been using one for years. Very loud for it's rated 280 watts and I've only been using into an 8ohm load. It allows you to get the GK grind and growl at a much lower volume. The only bummer is the lack of the horn bi-amp feature.
