Got my rig set up

RIG2012.jpg

So everything is running.
Bass to volume pedal to A/B/Y splitter

Channel A: Crate Blue Voodoo into a Peavy 412 cab with 84 black widow speakers.

Channel B: Alesis Midiverb 4 to LH1000 to ampeg 810.

I think it sounds good, but could i get more low clarity if i were running a couple 15s rather than the 810? Or maybe keep the 810 and 412 and run an 18 or something.

I am kind of going for an old school Geddy Lee (Hemisphers), Chris Squire (Fragile), Billy Sheehan tone. I am pushing the mids and highs out of the guitar cab and pushing mids and lows with the 810 but it still just doesnt sound right in the mix.
What do you guys think?

Can't even attempt to diagnose this one! But just remember that both Chris and Billy use 810e's. Well Chris still does, but Billy's using Hartke AK's now, which are voiced similar to the 810e.

I"m 6'2" and 260lbs, at 36 years old my back is pretty messed up from big gear, but if I had the vehicle to carry it I probably would have an 810 too! I used to carry around an old Peavey 1820, which is probably close to if not more heavy than a 810 Ampeg. I think they used an old refrigerator to mount that single 18 and two 10s into for the Peavey!

Nope. I understand what the crossover does, but where do I get one?
You don't need it when you run a separate amp for every cab. I think you're on the right track, but you just haven't found the sounds that are complimentary to each other. But if you're looking for insane lows like a PA sub, you won't get that from an 810e. You get lows that mix themselves for minimum mud with an 810e. Maybe a couple 410HLF's are more your speed. Or maybe just add a PA sub. I heard Radiohead's bassist uses an 810e and a PA sub.

I don't want super super low bass, I just want low bass that cuts through the mix. I am trying to cut through currently with the guitar amp to push my mids and highs. it does a great job of doing that. But i want more low in my sound to cut through.

We are a 3 piece prog metal band. Trying to be anyway.

Well one thing I'd do is take the Midiverb off the bass amp and put it on the guitar amp where it will actually do you some good. Adding reverb to lows just makes more standing waves to bounce around the room.

So run the midiverb on the guitar side? Just like a touch of reverb? I am currently bypassing it on the bass side of the rig.
I had been running it when i had a smaller rig in my bedroom.

Oh, well if you're bypassing it, never mind...guess we're back to square one ;)

I'm not real familiar with what the Hartke amp's Fender style tone stack does in an 810e, but I'd read up on the Fender tone stack and see if you might find something out that can help you. Tons of info about it on the net.
