Got screwed by my drummer!!!!

I'd be having a serious talk with the band at this point and find out everyone's intentions - make sure everyone's going for the same goal with the band.
Once you find out what seems to be that the drummer wants to keep things in the garage, boot him out and get a drummer who more fits your vision and goals.

Well the band has been around for 15 years...well the name and drummer anyways. Musicians keep coming and going. Played as far as Thunder Bay, ON which is a 12 hour drive and everywhere else in between. So Garage band we are not...but old the drummer is. LOL

Drummer = 58
Rhythm Gtr = 41
Lead Gtr = 33
Bass (me) = 33
Singer = 42

We're not an original band, but we are a solid cover band. Everyone has a job to do, and everyone does that job amazingly.

It was still money though, so your drummer screwed you in that regard. Plus, it's just bad to cancel gigs. How's your drummer besides this screw-up?

Usually good. For example...He's a heavy machinery mechanic, last Friday he got hit in the back by a small backhoe, work wanted to send him to the hospital for x-rays and he refused because we had a gig?!? So he was popping pills all night because of the pain.

As for the same wave length....we are deffinately not. Some of them have been there done that, so they are now happy doing what they are doing. As for me, I'll be celebrating 10 years next summer in this band and I'm starting to wonder if the grass is greener on the other side.

All I want to do is perform more. I love beeing in the Limelight. We already play 2-3 weekends a month, but it's the same rotation all the time.

I guess I just haven't really experienced the road as much as I thought, and I just need to get some things off my chest before I'm 80 and realize I should-of / would-of / could-of.

But when you said travel was paid, did they mention by car or plane ?

Never been to Eastmain, but I went to Radisson/LG (a bit further North I think) and believe me, you don't want to get there in a wimpy family car or station wagon :D

A truck (pickup, 4x4 SUV, etc) is MORE than recommended for that last stretch.

I'm asking because more often than not, it is almost cheaper for them to get you there by air (although with all the music gears, I don't know ...). The companies there have a bunch of pre-planned charter flights to get employees in and out, for which they pay for anyways, empty or full.

Yea, that stinks. Sounds like it could have been fun and paid a few bills too! Are there family obligations for any of the other members? Maybe that comes into play...

I'd be more mad at myself for what I named my rant thread though...:D

j/k:hiding:

Dude, cut him some slack. He's 58 years old and he's hurt. His reason for bailing on the gig is obviously because his aching body just can't take such a long road trip. His stubborn pride won't let him admit that to you but that's the reason.

If you want to fire the guy because he's too old to rock and roll (but much too young to die*) go right ahead if your conscience will let you. :D
