Got screwed by my drummer!!!!

Yep...$5000.00 for the band plus they would reimburse our gas, hotel and food expenses.

Wow. I'd be P.O.'d too. Only thing that could conceivably justify the drummer's attitude is if you didn't have a contract with deposit in place. Then he may have had a legitimate business concern and especially if he's a veteran and got burned on something like this before. But if everything was documented, then he was lame and just flat-out in the wrong and I would agree with others here... hire another drummer and do the gig anyway, if you haven't already burned your bridges on it.

Fly Date

For that kind of coin you could have subbed a heavy hitter out of New York, Nashville or LA. done the gig just fine and fired that worthless POS at your leisure.

That's a lot of friggan money right there.

Yeah call me next time for sure. I know a bunch of amazing playes who would jump on that... two of them are from Canada!

While I'm not defending the drummer's actions, that IS a long drive / gig for an old curmudgeon like that... I didn't realize he was nearing retirement age. :p
As an Official Old Fart, complete with membership card, I've recently gone from The Fort to some place in Northern Michigan for a meal. For some real cash, I'd fly a biplane in winter to Wisconsin. No excuse but death or illness... and you'd have to be really, really ill.Invalid Link Removed

Every drummer I have ever played with screwed the band over somehow. Maybe it's just my bad karma. Anyway, played in a cover band that was getting ready to really start making some money. Two drummers in a row quit. They could not commit to the band and cost us serious gig bucks. Another one I played with got put in jail for 7 years..

If you calculate an hourly rate, for all the hours you'd be gone, it's probably less than $20/hour.
Probably $15/hr after taxes. And don't forget the wear and tear on your transportation.

Is that worth it?

I hope any offense possibly taken is in jest. My reference to the age group was considering the average, not every person of the age... You probably better have stamina than me, and I'M 35!!! :D

anyone even the least bit suspicious why that kind of dough is offered ....for reasons i won't go into the band should be giving thanks to their wizened drum beater

Because it's on a Native Reserve in Northern Quebec. Somewhat isolated. And it's Government money they have to spend. Usually Natives are giving a certain budget per year from the government, and if they don't spend it all, they will get less the following year.
