Got the "Call' today...

he wasn't messing with me... I have my suspicions that he'd been hitting the scene a little harder than usual for a few days and started to loose his edge perhaps.

It can happen...

I don't envy you having to drive back-and-forth between Denver and anywhere in Kansas. That's always been my most dreaded trip on any tour I've been on (with the HUGE exception of witnessing the Rocky Mountains grow over the horizon, of course. It's getting to there that sucks). I suppose the bus at least makes it a little more comfortable than a stinky van and an alcoholic lead singer.

It's gotta be great to play for what must be a super enthusiastic audience every night. I don't know if there's something wrong with me, but I'm totally addicted to that experience. It's what keeps me going through the boredom of sometimes sitting around and doing nothing for hours on the road.

Hope you're loving every minute of it.

JJ>>> It def helps to play for people who are there to see you and not the TV screen behind you! For most of this tour, I think I've been too bizzy onstage to actually absorb alot of whats happening around me. When we've done headlining sets it's the fastest 90 minutes I've ever experienced. No lie! The 45 min support sets are just a blur - super compact and fireing all 6 bullets at once...
Sound check at Red Rocks was for me, almost better than the actual gig because I had time to think, relax, mess around and have fun. Dont get me wrong though because the gig itself was a blast - looking up at a 3/4 full house and that beautiful venue was like a dream. The drummer showed me a bunch of pics from the gig and if we sounded even a 1/4 as good as we looked, then we did very well! We were supporting Big Head Todd And The Monsters and they were really really good. I didn't know much about them but I was totally captured for their whole show. They had Ronnie Brooks (git ledgend Lonnie Brooks son) sitting in with them and he absolutly killed it. A real treat!

Gearing up now for Bonnaroo on Friday with stops in KC and Louisville along the way. The waitress where I just had lunch asked me what I did for a living ect.. and she asked if I get nervous standing in front of people. I told her that I didn't because I'm too bizzy and too happy to feel much else...

Played a show in KC last night at Crossroads. We were supposed to go on at 9:45 but the singer was in NYC shooting a " top secret" TV show and his plane was delayed. He ended up having to chase down three different flights over the course of 12 hours to make it to the gig.... 90 minutes late. But he made it!!!! He literally hit the stage within a few minutes of driving up to the dressing rooms- simply hopped out of the car and we went on. Theres real energy in the air when that happens! POW!!!!

Day off in St.Louis today with a stop in Louisville tomorrow night and then Bonnaroo on Friday.

Tech note- I don't have custom molded inears but I bought a set of cheap $10 buggers at Target the night before the tour and they have served me well. They seal pretty good and sound great. Lots of lows and balanced highs. I'll try to get the name of them so anyone else can pick up a set for their rig ect.

Wow! After being late and rushing onstage, there must have been some adrenaline flowing. That can make for a raucous performance! It sounds like whatever can happen will happen on this tour. Whatta ride!

Yes, please let us know what cheapo earbuds you are using. It would be nice to have a low-cost backup. I have a pair of Shure SE215 and they sound just fine but I need to get some custom molded inserts so that they fit better. It's a little inconvenient to have to reach up and push them back in between songs.

Anyway, carry on! I'm enjoying your exploits.

I love stuff like this! hehehehe

That's why I always tell my musical friends, HAVE PASSPORT, WILL TRAVEL!!

I was told about VT a year or two ago, by a fellow Uriah Heep fan at a festival where the Heep headlined. A few months later I played a festival with my blues band (god I miss that band) and found the VT album and bought it purely based on the enthusiasm of that one Heepster. I do not regret it :)

What's the OP's other band, again? I want to check 'em out!

Arrived home in the wee hours this morning to a couple of lazy cats who are both intrigued by my presence and who couldn't care less.... I've started to collect pics of the tour and will post some of them over the next few days.

Big lesson here was - dont be an idiot and NOT have a smart phone in the 21st century. I usually love the feeling of not being connected to all the humm and babble bouncing off the ozone but there is a time and a place for everything, and this was DEFINITELY the time to get in on the whole she-bang. From here on out everyone in the entire world who has ever lived and who will ever live will know everything I will ever not even know about myself. Promise.

Here are the earbuds I used - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I couldn't find them on the Skullcandy website so maybe they dont make them anymore? These little suckers stayed tight in my ears even when I was sweating - which was ALWAYS and COMPLETELY wearing in the stage clothes I had on! I was really surprised at the low end response and how much ambient sound they blocked out. I ALWAYS play with ear plugs and these easily gave me 30db reduction.

Ah, figures. Those are my go-to kind of earbuds when I want to or have to learn a song. (Then go to rehearsal and be informed that the key has been changed, but that's neither here nor there.)

And smartphones are totally necessary on the road. There's Words With Friends, fantasy baseball, and how else would my girlfriend manage to drive me crazy the whole time I'm away? :-)

Glad you made it home in one piece and looking forward to hearing from Howlin' Rain.
