Well it may not be the type of music you like to hear or you may find it bland or boring etc... But she won, and the people who voted for her don't agree with other's opinions. It's not the type of music I gravitate to by a long shot, but I recognize she has a gift and I hope the music industry doesn't ruin that gift.

Wow. I had no idea so many of you even watched The Voice. The only reason I had to put up with it is because I'm on semi-vacation with my wife and in-laws whom are ALL into it. Guess I'm old school and have a problem with 'Star Makers' and the general public voting on talent. Please forgive me, not trying to rain on the parade, I'm just SHOCKED that you guys, my peers, watch that show.

I don't watch the Voice. The show we are talking about here is America's Got Talent. I've never watched the Voice but I will admit to being a fan of American Idol! My wife and I work different hours so on the rare day we had together in the evening I would watch the recordings of Idol or Dancing with the Stars! I do it for her because she enjoys it and wants to spend some time together. She does the same for me when we go to the shooting range. She is not a big fan of shooting but she does it anyway to spend some rare time together.

And sales. If its anything like Idol you have to sell your soul to accept the prize. A friend of mine made it through first auditions with AI but would have had to forfeit all of her current catalog she co-wrote with her gigging band and was not allowed to make any public appearance (including gigging) while going through the rest of the show.

This is true. My band just auditioned and made it through the first round with celebrity judges. Got 4 yesses, then the contracts get sent out.

For what it's worth, the contract says that you need AGT permission to do public appearances, so it may be possible.

They actually wanted us pretty bad, and were willing to change most of the things we had gripes with it, including the length of the contract, which I think is 5 years.

They said they weren't used to getting push back from the performers.

In the end we decided that despite the potential exposure, being on the show would have hurt our "cred" with the kinds of people we would want in our audience.

My 15 year old daughter plays uke and is greatly inspired by her. Not really my thing but I can see where she is coming from and if she really wrote this then that's pretty remarkable for 12. I didn't see the last performance but I saw the first two. First one she was real, after that it looks like they've already started turning her into a glam machine. Hope they don't take this good hearted, talented kid and overtake her burn her out from what she enjoys doing. IMO you're almost better to score runner up, you get the publicity but aren't stuck in their silly contract. They said the next Taylor Swift. My first thought was Jewel but who knows what will happen. In any case it's probably a good time to be a uke builder or dealer.
