hey. looking for some bass tabs for some dead songs that i cant find anywhere. looking for the songs "new minglewood blues" and "viola lee blues". two cool, blues songs the dead do really well. these are pretty basic riffs and if anyone knows the tab on them, id really appreciate it. thanks alot. peace

grateful dead tabs

I've discovered recently that at Amazon.com, the GD's "Anthology" and "Anthology Volume 2" are searchable with the "peek inside" feature. (I bought a used copy of the first volume recently, which is easy to find cheap, but Volume 2 is almost impossible to come by these days for some reason.) Each song has standard notation for bass clef in addition to guitar. There's no tab, but even if you don't really read (as I don't) you can figure them out with a little work (and also work on your sight reading at the same time!).
Of course, the whole idea of tabs or any written notation for Grateful Dead music is almost oxymoronic, but the lines as originally written are still helpful in developing your own lines for the songs.

I would suggest biting the bullet and buying one of the anthology books. I have one and love it!
I'm a Mainer myself, where abouts are you from? I grew up in Waldoboro, and went to college at USM.
I also bought a loose-bound Grateful Dead songbook at a Mexicali Blues that has almost every song The Grateful Dead every wrote, although it only lists chords over the lyrics. If you're good enough with going playing from chords, I'd suggest going that route. The songbook was maybe $10.

phil lesh is pretty much all over the place, and it is kinda hard to tab his stuff. i guess im going to have to get a book, i can figure most stuff out just by the chords, but some riffs i would like to see the tab and if im playing them right.

Looking at the Amazon page, the bass clef section just appears to be the lower staff of the Piano music. Can you confirm if some of these are in fact the bass lines?
